Quality of Rilezu cels

Post by Gonzai »

I have, for quite some time, been preordering and purchasing
Rilezu cels. Some of the cels I have received, have been just
beautiful, however, as of late, I am getting more and more
frustrated with Rilezu cels. If I am going to pay over $200
for a cel, I want it to be damn near perfect. I want the
colors to match the screenshots exactly. Unfortunately, I
am seeing more and more Rilezu cels being updated in
galleries, and I think the colors are just off. Is it just me,
or have others of you noticed this as well. I never used
to notice this, however, with the arrival of my Basilisk cels,
I am seeing it more and more in other series. Hats off
to Madoka for getting it right. What do you guys who collect
Rilezu think?? Am I just being too persnickity?? :?

I have yet to find a Rilezu to match the detail in my fan cels =}! And most all of my fan cels have been cheaper than Rilezu...LOL!

Unless the Rilezu comes with all of the sketches, etc...I really don't have any interest in them...It just seems like a Fan Cel to me.

I've been looking at Rilezu quality since they started getting produced...Only a few have made me want to buy them...But they're all the hanken quality...Trinity Blood or Kannaduki no Miko hanken repros. The regular Rilezu are nice, but...I agree with you...some just look "off".

You really do? Have you ever had interest in them ?

Persnickity? Sister...you were born persnickity!!

I am, of course, totally kidding!! I totally agree with you. I have been extremely happy with the rilezu that I have purchased. There is one cel currently in my collection that I am not as pleased with, but that is the only one that I have any complaint with. And you are correct when you say how wonderful the Basilisk rilezu are. Every time I see Madoka update with them, I am sorely tempted to throw in a pre-order or two!!

I have ordered quite a few rilezu cels. I have also had the opportunity to see others belonging to fellow collectors. The quality seems to be all over the place. Some are incredible and others are only so-so. Sometimes, the quality is inconsistent even within the same production company and show. I don't think you're being too picky, I think it is a very real occurence.

I thought at first it was because some of the sequences had a lot of extra computer effects added for the anime. I figured that maybe it made the colors harder to reproduce in a cel. Now, I am not so sure. Maybe what we are seeing is a variation in budgets, quality control or individual artist skill.

Right now I have no plans to change my buying habits. That's probably because by the time I see a show, the rilezu sales are rather advanced and I have a fair idea of how some of them have turned out. Of course, the I still get hit with the intrashow inconsistency. :hurt: I can see that this would be a huge problem with people who order early. It seems to be a trade off. Forewarning or missed opportunity.

I suppose you could limit yourself to buying from only certain companies. Then you could have fan cels made of the others. It's kind of hard though. If they surprised me and did a good job, I would be kicking myself over not getting one when I could.

It's not being picky to expect a product to look like what is on the website. I give a little leeway for a small color variance, but when a color is way off, sure, it *is* irritating and disappointing. I'm not a 'major' rilezu collector, but I agree with your observations. It makes me a little wary when placing more orders, but now I check if anyone else has a rilezu of the character I'm interested in to see how it came out. If I'm okay with what I see, I order, and hope for the best. :P

I only have one Rilezu cel that I have ever purchased, which is of Shinku from Rozen Maiden. I absolutely LOVE it and wouldn't trade it for the world. I think the colors match the Anime extremely well, although I have not sat down to compare. I don't know how the other series are.

Do you get the douga with the Rilezu cels you currently purchase? Or do they not come with those? My Shinku cel came with the douga.

What good timing for this thread.

I just received 2 e-mails a couple days apart saying my Saiunkoku Monogatari rilezu were done...2 different websites.

Anyway, when I looked at them and compared, Seiran not only has bluer hair than expected but 2 different colors of blue.

I know that some things we would question in the US is viewed as very rude in Japan. If I questioned the hair color, would this be considered rude? This is the first time for a pre-order rilezu. Is it a mute point anyway since these are the final product? I can't say I am totally pleased with this outcome. Also, I don't have them in hand yet, so I am only going by the images sent to me that they are finished.

Here is the link to the image shown to order from with purple hair.

Or compare to my signature...much different color.

Exactly Nikki!! The color is definately off. I seen that
with some cels in others gallerys of Ryuuki as well.
I personally love this series, so I notice this so much,
however, its not just this series and this studio. There
are others as well. As I said, i don't know if I noticed
it only after I started receiving my Basiilisk cels, since
when I compare them to the screen shots, they are
dead on. I guess I just hate the thought of paying
that kind of money for a cel that I think I could get a
fan artist to do one for less than half the price. I think
you just expect more out of a Rilezu, no...?? :?

AO - They must have done the SM rilezu en masse because I got an email too. :P I think my Seiran's hair might have a different shade than yours. It's hard to compare to the screenshot, because in that, there was a white glow around him.

What really through me off with the SM rilezu is what they did to Ryuuki's hair color.

Hm, this makes me even more wary of ordering rilezu. Office FAO is the one who makes the SM rilezu, right? They're the only ones I've considered ordering from since they have Fate/Stay Night, Simoun, and Higurashi.
