How do you feel about COMING SOON sections?

Post by sugarcels »

I did a search, but couldn't find a thread like this.

Also, I know I just made a thread, but I'm really, really bored  I don't mean for this to start fights or anything, I'm really just curious.

How do you feel about coming soon sections? Would you rather be surprised? Is it "annoying" to you somehow? No preference? Why or why not?

Myself? I don't really mind, as I had one myself until just recently.

Not a big fan of coming soon sections, mainly because it's extra work to maintain. Time that could be well spent out prowling high and low for new items.

I think it's a good place to put cels before you actually receive them and can do a decent scan. Really it's usually more of a 'new stuff that you can preview but can't really get a proper look at as of yet' section for me.

I dunno I guess they don't hurt, but then again my intention is to horde stuff and then do a larger update quaterly so I don't keep having lots of micro updates as it were. Having said that though I've bought only about 4 cels so far this year so any updates I do are gonna be pretty micro this year regardless! :x

Bad luck to post a cel before you have it in hand :o

I kinda like them accept when the coming soon section is hidden thats the only time that I get ever so slightly (and I mean very very very slightly) annoyed.

If you enjoy looking at poor quality auction scans that really don't show a piece of art to its best advantage, they're fabulous. :P

Coming Soon sections in other collector's galleries don't really matter to me either way. It's uncommon for me to see stuff posted from titles I'm still fervent on. So anywhere and anytime I can see them is fine by me.

As far as making Coming Soon sections for MY galleries, I don't see much of a need for them. I normally wouldn't post seller's scans from anything more recent than four months ago anyway. I'm also too lazy to make one. :)

You could say my Coming Soon section is the images I save in a folder on my hard drive. :D The last several months I've been saving images like this:

It helps me keep track of things.

I personally don't use one just cause it is extra work and I like the element of surprise. Yes, I am very much lazy. Also I like looking at nicer scans than the ones on the dealer sites or auction sites. I do agree with the bad luck statment since I have lost cels in the mail.

For other people, I usually ignore them because I like to look at the nice pretty scans. :)

heh heh
Again, I had one until people spoke out here on beta and rs that they didn't like them at all.
I've been trying to live without it, and it's a booger. I didn't realize how much I relied upon that to keep track of the price/seller/date won. 8O
Now, I have to go back to ebay and find the auction, and note the price/seller/date won once the thing comes in. :? Bleah.
I'm thinking about reinstating it just for my own sanity.

Oh wait, I lost that YEARS ago! :P

Or you can just right click and save each auction pic with price/seller/date won as the name you file it under. ;)

Once in a while I like to see what some of my close friends/competitors have in the pipeline. But I'm much more of a fan of "Just arrived" galleries, where you can have a quick look at the newest additions to a gallery. That way one doesn't need to hunt through screens to find the latest items, and the curator can put them directly into the place in the gallery where they logically belong (e.g., with others from the same episode or of the same character).

I dunno: putting it up in "coming soon" seems instant gratification; the kind that suggests that winning the auction is the moment of peak joy. For me the climax comes when I unpack the shipment and hold the item in my own hands. I'd rather put it up then, when I've scanned it myself in front of a background or colored mat that compliments the image and duly installed it in my cel book.

Just my 500 yen, though: if I don't want to look at someone's "Coming Soon" gallery, nobody's making me.

I don't do a coming soon section because most of the time, the scans or pictures of the cel aren't as good as I'd like. Also, I try to find the episode and get a screen cap. So, I'd rather wait until I can do the job right.

I keep my coming soon section hidden. It's only there to help
me keep track of auction wins and purchases that will be coming to me. I tend
to get scatterbrained at times and completely forget what is on its way to me. :emb

Personally I don't mind seeing coming soon sections in other peoples
galleries. It's interesting to see what others have just aquired and also to see
if anyone happens to win items I've lost on auction. :P
