Which anime series have you Stopped Collecting?
Well the thread titled "Collecting of title satisfaction point?" got me thinking so I decided to make a thread.
Which series did you once actively collect and have stopped?
and or
Which series have you stopped long ago and sold off those sketches/cels?
As for me I have always actively seeked Juuni Kokki and since I have only been collecting for a year (almost) I have yet to really "change". But I am curious as to how many have changed there main focus of there collection (NOT due to supply, demand, etc) but rather to simply a change in taste or finding a series you perfer to collect more then the pervious.

What would make you stop appreciate the Saiyuki that he or she see but he or she have no intention of buying anymore of it? I am glad you appreciate those qualities.

Recently, the only collection I've actually dissolved was my Chobits gallery. I love the manga but found the anime a little less impressive, and so I tended to get images of characters I liked rather than good art. So in packing up for the big move, I decided I needed the space instead.
Years ago I had one Ranma 1/2 cel that I got on a sale, and as I never really got into the art for this series, I sold that too on auction.
The second cel I ever bought was a Tenchi Muyo cel (of Ryoko), and while I never got any more, I like the image so much that I'm not planning to get rid of it now or ever. But I guess I'm "not collecting" either. [/i]

Well I've not been in this long enough to actually say for sure... *sigh* I'm still swinging back and forth between "focusing" and amassing 3-5 series deeply or focusing and having a few from a wide variety of shows (widen titles). I stopped Gen Gawl, initially I thought I liked it enough but then I found I wasn't really too keen in letting my money go for it's art. I also sold my chacha sells to a fellow collector who loves chacha a lot... But every now and then the urge to buy a chacha cel is strong, i'm trying to stay away from re-watching the show. LOL.... I also tried to get out of Inuyasha but found that I really missed it so.....
I don't think I have any idea what I'm doing. It's becoming trial and error......

Re: Which anime series have you Stopped Collecting?
Sailor Moon was the first series I was collecting cels from and I stopped to collect from it completely in 1999.EternityOfPain wrote: Which series did you once actively collect and have stopped?
Same series "Sailor Moon". I stopped collecting from it and sold off every single cel and sketch from it in 1999.EternityOfPain wrote: Which series have you stopped long ago and sold off those sketches/cels?
It's not that I don't like the series, but I moved into another series which wasn't cheap to buy from and I enjoyed a lot more.

Really, the only series I have really "stopped" collecting from aren't really stopped as much as they are on hold until some nice cels for prices I'd be willing to pay come along. I might sell a piece or two from these galleries, but I don't see myself selling off the entire collection anytime soon.
Series I haven't added to in a while: MMB, Saint Tail, CCS (recently it's been all presents), CCD . . . you know, there are too many to name.
The only series I add to on a regular basis are Daa! Daa! Daa!, Escaflowne, Ranma 1/2, and Hunter x Hunter. Geez . . . I guess that shows my variety of taste.
All other series I will randomly add to if the price--or piece is right. It really has to grab my attention.

Surely there are a few exceptions.

Re: Which anime series have you Stopped Collecting?
The only two cel series I'd say I actively collected and stopped were Video Girl Ai (Feb 24, 1998 to Feb 5, 2000) and Maison Ikkoku (Sept 29, 1998 to June 30, 2003). I technically stoped collecting from MI in July-Aug 2001, but I bought three cels and a background later that I couldn't resist. Looking back on those collecting times, it doesn't feel like I only collected from them for two or three years. It feels much longer than that.EternityOfPain wrote:Which series did you once actively collect and have stopped?

My main reason for switching focus was because I started getting into ren'ai games around June-Oct 2001. So from Dec 26th, 2001 onward, my focus switched to acquiring artwork from mainly ren'ai game based anime (there are over 120 of them now). The good thing is that there tends to be less deputy competition for them (except the most popular ones).
I've only sold one cel/sketch so my answer has to be "none".Which series have you stopped long ago and sold off those sketches/cels?

It would be interesting to see how you collecting habits might differ five or six years from now.As for me I have always actively seeked Juuni Kokki and since I have only been collecting for a year (almost) I have yet to really "change".

I used to buy a few Escaflowne cels, but pretty much stopped collecting them a few years ago. On occasion, I'll see a great Escaflowne cel for a great price on YJ, but in the end, I'll pass it up. Those cels don't capture my interest like they used to. And the ones that I do like, they end up fetching some big bucks. Giant Robo is another that I really liked in the beginning, but have no interest in whatsoever nowadays.
And then there are other cels I haven't collected for years, simply because they are way beyond my price range now. Those include: Battle Angel, Record of Lodoss War and Ghost in the Shell.

I've only been into this for roughly 3 years, so I don't think I've gone far enough (and have a large enough collection) to really speak from experience, but...
I never really STOP with a series. Once I start, I'm always open to cool cels to add, even if I haven't bought a cel for that series in several months or years. I used to actively seek cels for Tenshi ni Narumon and Saint Tail, but have since sorta backed off due to lack of anything cool or affordable.

I only sell cels if I find I'd never really become attached to them, need the money, or both. I may sell off a few things from a certain show, but I have yet to sell off an ENTIRE section.
