Ever had to put your collecting on a LONG hold?

Post by Belldandy16 »

thats what i have to do now :( (and i just started collecting too!).

I found out today that my work is cutting two hours a day from my job (which for me is a BIG cut). I work for the school district in my city and they are having such bad financial troubles that they are having to cut many peoples' hours down (now including mine).
so now ill have to put my collecting on hold for quite awhile (probably till next year).

man but this bumms me out because i really enjoyed this hobby! :l

anyone else ever had to put your collecting on a long hold like this?

thanks everyone!

I put mine on hold for 4 years while I was in college. I also had to sell off a lot of it to pay for for books and tuition.

I just came back to collecting 4 months ago.

Ive put cel collecting on hold for acouple of years now because of other interests. I love designer bags (and they are very expensive), so I have to be very selective in cels since all my money goes to bags!

When I am in school I can't work so I am low on money. I don't necessarily put my collecting on hold, I just kind of "hibernate" for awhile. When I come home for breaks and during the summer I usually make some big purchases with the money I've saved up or started to make. Now if a really inexpensive cel that I really want comes along while I am in school then I will try to stretch my money a little and purchase it.

I think its worth it to go for long periods of time without buying a cel, while you are trying to save your money. If you get into the habit of getting cels just to feel the thrill of adding to your collection, when your wishlist cel comes along you won't have the cash for it!

Hopefully they give you more hours soon! Or even give you a raise! Image

I'm actually in the middle of one of those long breaks right now. It's been 6 months since I purchased anything cel or sketch related. And my last purchases weren't even for me. :^^:

There's a part of me that can't wait until I'm back in the game again. However, there's another part of me that's fine with how things are now. It's not as bad of an addiction as it once was. But I do have a couple of items marked to snag asap when I do get back into the swing of things. Sadly though, it'll still be several more months.

Best of luck with your job!

I have gone a year without finding anything I really wanted, but it wasn't for lack of trying

Does that count? :?

Mmmm....I think last year my collection was on hold (for the first half of 07)
During that time I was collecting Doujinshi (trying to translate some) and I read manga...A friend pulled me back into collecting :D

I took a step back during my time at uni and think I only bought a few items over a 3 year period. There's no shame in taking a break though, purchase what you can afford.

Sorry to hear you are having a few problems though, I hope it all gets sorted soon!

I have taken breaks before on my own but there was a forced break around 6-7 years ago which lasted for 2 months.

Our business is seasonal, during winter we sit on our asses for around 2-5 months. In the past we used to save up for around 6 months, that is until one winter which lasted quite a bit longer than normal. It was so long we learned different ways of cooking Top Ramen and Potatoes, lol!! Anywho... we made it through, lesson learned. So long story short... yeah been there!!

I really don't believe the term "on hold" with regards to cel collecting. You are either buying/looking or not at that moment.

Yeah, my collecting's been on a long hiatus for about 3-4 years. A few new pieces managed to sneak by every now and then, but I'm hardly active in this hobby any more. Kinda sad but it seems like life is full of bills for me right now. heh
