Show me you child sidekicks in battle

Post by Xelloss »

I've been playing the game Lost Odyssey lately (JRPG for Xbox 360) and it struck me how often in games and anime that the main characters will take children *much* younger than they are and much weaker than they are into fierce battles. Granted, it's usually used as a way to give the powerful characters something to protect, and someone they have to keep rescuing.

And since we haven't had many show-me threads around here lately, show me those underpowered child sidekicks which are often thrown in dangerous situations.

Here's Shippo. He's got some magic powers, but illusions only go so far. Got to admire his sprit, though.

I choose Taisuke from Ginka Sengoku Gunyuuden Rai (Thunder Jet). No hero needs to save this little guy! Not only does this kid get to use grenades, bazookas, and his handy-dandy flintlock pistol, but also he’s apparently an enlisted member of the “North’s” galactic army.

I’m going with Yahiko from Rurouni Kenshin!

Yes, he’s much weaker than Kenshin (but hey, who isn’t…well, maybe Hiko  ..) and he’s left behind in the battle with Shishio, but he gets to use all his abilities and ingenuity in the battle at the Aoiya, and acquits himself brilliantly! 8)

Maybe this isn't quite the idea, but the PowerPuff Girls Z certainly fit the category of child warriors. Actually, when the Miracle Fighting Ace (a reigning hunky adult superhero) gets into trouble, the GirlZ bail him out in short order:

No I don't think I can do count on Ash to kick Team Rocket's butt.

Heh. The child sidekicks tend to annoy me . . . I do have a lot of cels of children, but they're the stars of their shows.

I do like Shippo, though! One day, the cel stars may align, and I will come across the perfect cel of him that I can bring myself to buy. :)

Okay, I'm having a little bit of a hard time finding someone who would strictly be considered a "side-kick. Does Iris from Sakura Taisen count?

Okay, maybe this one isn't exactly a side-kick, but for child warriors, it's difficult to find a much cuter one than Chacha. ^_^

Same here. I had a sketch of Shippo but quickly sold it since I don't like him either. I can show you chibi but not child. Sorry. X|

Chibimoon is who I think about when it comes to kiddies being overpowered by difficult situations.

My contribution is a very happy close-up of Chibimoon.

All Chibimoon had to use to attack with during this season was a dorky pink stick that distracted the enemy when it shot out pink hearts. As with Shippo, distractive techniques only go so far...
