Your biggest regret in this hobby.

Post by sletia »

In my case, I never went through with a deal with the original owner of the Phibrizzo cel which now exists in zelgoddess's gallery. This was in 2002.
I had never bought a cel before, and didn't have paypal. She said that she would let it go for $250, and that she had gotten offers up to $500 for it.
I chickened out. I didn't know how to go through with an online transaction.
Now, when I look back, I kick myself very very hard. In fact I still have the original e-mails when I was hashing out the details with her...
Actually, I try not to think about it too much, because it honestly makes me cry. Even now I feel my heart ache. /sob The new owner will not sell, and trust me I'd pay more than double the amount if I could, and it is the only cel that exists from that scene. :bawl I would give away everything I had for that cel.
So let's share our woes: what is your biggest regret?

My biggest regret is not bidding an insane amount for this cel. At the time, my bidding limits with both Rinkya and SMJ were too low... :l :l
It was for auction at the same time as my End cel of the Cheshire Cat - which I had already bid on. My bidding limit only permitted one bid of this magnitude. Could the cel gods hate me any more?

Hm, my regret would probably be not being so selective. I use to just buy any good shot I liked to build a great collection. Sure I did love all those that I bought, but the idea of being selective seems better to me since I can save my cash for the stuff I really want :)

Yes, I think that's my regret as well. I saw a very important set of gengas on sale on eBay, and put a decent but not killer bid on it, intending to come back just before the end and "snipe myself" with the amount I really thought it was worth. Alas, I'd changed my password a week or so before, and when I upped my bid, I accidentally entered the old password and the bid didn't go through. And, yes, someone else was sniping and got it instead. Maybe the other bidder would have gotten it if I'd bid my true max earlier, but at least I'd have had the satisfaction that I lost the lot fair and square, not through stupidity.

:bwall :stupid: :flushie :ewhip:

D'oh!! X| Now that is just plain sad!! :l I can totally
feel your pain on that one. :hurt:

My biggest regret is not watching Hikaru No Go sooner,
when Midori first told me to. There was so much great
artwork to be had at that time. By the time I got around
to watching it, all the artwork had dried up. :l

<-------Feels totally luck to have what HnG she has!! :)

My greatest regret is not having properly tried to obtain sketches earlier.

Think of all the stuff I missed. I'm not even sure what I missed, but I'm sure I would have bought a lot of it! :bwall

The Unknown Lost Sketch Years: 1998-2005 R.I.P. :hurt:

Other Regrets:

1. I wish I had watched some anime titles sooner like Doukyuusei 2, To Heart, Sentimental Journey, Nanoha, Code Geass, etc. because it affected what I could have tried to get (or maybe what I would have gotten).

2. I should have bid on the Midori no Hibi I seen.

The one I always kick myself for, is losing out on a beautiful pan with background of Miaka & Tamahome from the final TV episode of FY, embracing nekkid among pink bubbles and beautiful colors. The seller had agreed to sell it to me, and we had agreed on a payment plan. But then another buyer came along and offered to pay the total amount all at once, and so the seller canceled our deal, and I never saw the cel again.

I still lament that loss terribly.

The only regret I have is, I wish I started earlier on RK. But everytime I think more about it, I remember I was always broke back in the day that it would've been impossible anyway. So I try not to lament the Saitou cels I've missed over the years and instead put my best efforts into acquiring what I can as reasonably as possible.

My big regrets have always been jumping too fast to buy something. When I get the art in, I am so disappointed because I feel like I should have waited. But, I have gotten so much better now with selectivity. Still, some very valuable lessons.

My biggest regret is finally finding a nice Mezzo Forte hentai cel (extremely close to a wishlist) and not being able to put a decent bid on. I had too many other bids on at the time (none of which I won) and I couldn't put a good bid on it. The sad part is that it went for a ridiculously low price in the end :l

Its funny, as I was discussing this with Nicholas the other day!

Anyway my story is quite similar, a good number of Street Fighter Movie cels, came up for auction on Yahoo Japan (which I found using the search on one of the deputy sites) and as per usual I bidded on all the ones I liked. No problem right? But then on the last day, for whatever reason I checked the sellers other items that they had for sale and alas they had a truly stunning Cammy cel which didn't come up on the search. At this point I had already used up my limit bidding on the other cels and it was too late to up my limit and I got to say I am still gutted!

If only I was more thorough with my search…

i'd say in general not getting into collecting years before i did as i missed out on the glory years :(

otherwise, the most recent biggest regret i have was yesterday. there was a killua cel from hxh wearing his hat (on my wishlist in my head is a cel of him wearing the hat and looking fierce) and this cel was absolutely PERFECT so i wanted it. i bid (but not my max as the auction said in big red letters. extension in last five minutes).... so i figured i could always raise it. also i didn't snipe myself as i figured ANY bid in the last five minutes would extend it (unlike other auctions were bids from the same person don't extend it)... but i found out the hard way that it was just like other auctions when i was sniped in the last 15 seconds, couldn't up my bid in time due to my connection, and lost the cel. so i'm very sad/mad at myself that i was fooled by the stupid red letters and didn't snipe myself. it still stings :(

My biggest regret is not buying more FY and Ranma cels earlier when the prices were low.... But still, I'm happy with what I have now. So rather than thinking abt those that slipped thru, I think abt those I've got. One can't possibly own all the cels they want right? Anyway, most of you have very nice collections and I'm sure in the future there'll be more cels you want AND successfully buy.
