Real life cel stores

Post by dude_moose »

Hey guys!

I don't think I publicly made it known that I'm studying abroad in Japan till the end of April in Kyoto. I've been here since the beginning of September, and just happened to accidentally walk into Mandarake's Umeda store while on a trip to Osaka. They had some cels and sketches for sale there, but most of them were in the $10 and under category... I know that the other Mandarake stores sell them too (particularly the main store in Tokyo), but I haven't made it over to Tokyo or the other big cities yet. I was just wondering if anyone knew of any other real life anime-production-stuff-selling stores in Japan? I was so excited when I saw them even though I didn't see anything I wanted! :D :D :D

Sounds like great fun! :D

The Anicyo auction site has a list of stores by prefecture here:
http://www.anicyo.com/index.php?page=shopnavi

I think it's for all anime related goods...so they probably don't all sell cels, though...

aaaand COMPLETELY :topic

I couldn't help but notice that a search of Anime-Beta for posts on the Medicine Seller turned up your name...

Please, forgive my presumptuousness...

but I don't suppose you might consider casting a vote for him in the Fave Anime Character thread.... :sweatdrop

Hey irmgaard thanks for the list! :-)

So I'm in Tokyo for 3 weeks over my winter break and I went to Mandarake's main store in Nakano, but it was pretty disappointing, to be honest. They had some nice stuff I guess, just nothing I was interested in.

In the same building (on the 3rd and 4th floors), there are two other cel shops. The one on the 3rd floor had a lot of lower quality cels, but I managed to pick up a fairly nice one from Tenchi for 500 yen. The second one had a ton of sketches and cels from a ton of series, and most seemed to be medium or high quality. I managed to find a really cool pan sketch of Washu from Tenchi GXP there for only 1050 yen.

Just thought I'd post this info for people that might be going there in the future!

I can tell my vision is going downhill from old age. I looked at the title of the thread and thought it said:

I've been to the stores in Umeda and Akihabara, but the only good cels to see where the ones being displayed to advertise their auctions. ^_^; Otherwise everything else was cheap leftovers. A friend of mine did find a cute cel from Sailormoon, though.
