Show me your misunderstood/overlooked sketch......

Post by kathpatty »

I was wondering if anyone else had a sketch, that they thought was truly beautiful, but nobody else seemed to think so...
A sketch that touched you in someway or just seemed to be so like the character ? You ask yourself- Why is no one noticing it?

I have such a sketch that no one seems to notice.........

I will show you mine if you show me yours......
Please admire it :D X|

I do not have a sketch but I do have a mole man that is thankfully loved by me if not anyone else.

The number of people on this forum who have seen Mamotte Shugogetten can probably be counted on one hand...thus, my sketches from this series get little lovin'...

I've just spent some time reorganizing and screencapping my gallery devoted to AIC's Tenchi Muyo spinoff, Sasami: Magical Girl Club. I think several sketches I have from it are wonderfully beautiful, like this one of Sasami:

Worse, a lot of the reviewers, especially those for ANN, really dislike the new Funimation release. It's a shame, as the series is really very clever, thanks to scripts by one of the creators of Rozen Maiden. But, alas, it is truly for and about older children, not high-schoolers, and so people who weren't in the trenches with kids of this age, with all the genuine conflict and pain that comes with this "age of :dgrin innocence" just don't get it.

Creepy Hotaru! Great fingernails on Mole-man! But someone give poor Sasami a pat on the head! :bawl

Well, I know this hasn't been up long but, according to the RS counter, no one has visited poor Ranma.

This genga from ep 10 of Shounen Omnyouji has gotten only a few hits, much less than I would have thought since it's the scene when Masahiro is possessed by the water god, Takaoka no Kami, who delivers a message to Mokkun the foreign demons have started their move. I loved this scene and wanted the rilezu but someone else got it so I was thrilled when I was able to buy the genga set.

I think that is one of my most beautiful Sai sketches.
His eyes are so defined here, and I am blown away
by their beauty. Unfortunately, I seem to be the only one. :l

Here is actually one of my favorite sketches from the series. It is a full sequence of Ayato (from Rahxephon) when he finally transforms and begins to sing. The whole sketch sequence is of when he bows his head, lifts it and lets out his beautiful song! If you actually saw the entire sequence, the detail in his hair and face are absolutely remarkable. Seems I am the only one who truly appreciates it. :-)

Yeah! I seen their article on it. Gotta love their reviewers over there. Not only do they criticize the anime they're reviewing, they also criticize the viewers and potential target audience. :wow:

Sorry I don't have any misunderstood/overlooked sketches to share. :(

I'm trying to avoid hits, barely have any hits, almost never post about anything I just received and hardly have anything posted to begin with. :hurt:

I love this sketch of Inspector Gadget:

http://likeabutterfly.rubberslug.com/ga ... mID=254146

I know his eyes are closed but the expression is one you will see him make many times while watching the show. I love my Inspector Gadget sketches. They were not very expensive and I cannot figure out why - I think their gorgeous.

Sometimes I think the sketch/genga/layout of a particular moment is more meaningful to own than the cel, because it is more directly a product of the animator in control of the scene. After all, cels are just copies of the douga that are colored in with cel paint. I can enjoy more nuance of emotion in production drawings and sketches than in cels. You can feel the artist's intention as your eyes trace over the lines. And I think this is even more true with sketches from american animation than anime.

Amen! Viewing a good rough sketch is like being present at creation. One sometimes gets the feeling that the artist is seeing the actual characters in front of him/her, just as Valmiki chanted the Indian epic The Ramayana while watching the gods and demons do battle in the reflected image of a little water cupped in his hands.
