I lost this auction this morning

and find myself confused as to why it went so high........i know it's a nice cel, but i've been collecting utena cels for years and never seen anything come close in price.....

so thought i'd see if someone could elighten me on it

Because its a key scene in the anime and
character development.

It comes right after Utena loses her virginity to Akio.

Awesome, I was hoping it'd go for a lot. I'd never seen a cel from that scene before and it was very, very key in the anime, as Shampoo said.
Akio conquered Utena.
But uh, if you collect Utena, wouldn't you already know why it went so high?

Utena is mad expensive.
I wonder if kittyfire got it.

The infamous "I don't know how it happened" scene. I guess 'Tab A/Slot B' wasn't taught at Utena's private academy.

I had never seen a cel from that scene as well, so I'm not surprised it sold for as high as it did.

I won her ^.^ I actually was prepared to pay more for this cel. It was a fierce battle too, as I expected with repeated 5 minute time extensions.

I'm having a hard time getting an exact screencap from the episode. It looks as though the mouth doesn't match up with the position of the rest of the body. It might be on a separate layer because the shot I captured with the body in the exact position of the cel depicts her with her mouth open in an awkward looking way (because she started speaking to Akio...who is on top...).

Although I knew that before bidding, I had to have her anyway! I about blew a gasket and couldn't think straight for a week after I saw her posted on Mandarake. There was about a 10-minute staring-in-sheer-disbelief period (I actually doubted Mandarake for a minute as though they had made some sort of mistake), followed by hours of yelling out loud with glee at my boyfriend who is still dumbfounded as to why it matters.

I rewatched the episode over and over on youtube (for lack of desire to fumble with my terrible DVD player) with subtitles in Spanish after I saw the listing. I can't believe it but I made a discovery about the story from this scene that for some reason took the Spanish translation for me to understand! It was a very profound auction experience for me I must say LOL I am so happy to welcome her in to my collection. She shall be framed in all of her beautiful, perfect bubblegum glory!

Congratulations, bri. It really is a beautiful image of Utena, with the lovely lavender highlights in the eyes that Studio Pierrot did so well.

As with real estate, the key factor in assessing value is location, location, location!

Hey Silvrdrago: The episode is 33 The Prince Who Runs Through The Night, although if you are going to watch it on youtube there are videos with this title and episode number on Ruka's duel episode for some reason so watch out for that ^.^
