St. Patrick's Day Show me!

Post by sensei »

Lessee: what would be appropriate:
  • 1. Predominantly green cels or images
    2. Cels/sketches with leprechauns, shamrocks, or pots of gold with rainbows
    3. Cels/sketches with Irish-style music/dancing/overindulging
I'll start:

Image

This is Katabami aka "Wood Sorrel" aka Oxalis corniculata from Episode 35A of Powerpuff Girls Z. He's getting hammered (like a good Irishman on St. Paddy's Day) by Buttercup for being a dangerous weed monster. Actually, he's just a misunderstood wild plant, and his close relative Oxalis triangularis is what you see in stores this time of year being sold as "shamrocks."

Irrelevant note: what St. Patrick picked on Tara Hill as he explained the Trinity to the assembled chieftains was almost certainly Trifolium repens, a type of clover. But the Oxalis species arguably make a nicer triple leaf. And the katabami is, also appropriately, one of the oldest crests of Japanese martial arts clans, making it a perfect St. Patrick's day image for Anime-Beta.

Thanks, all: I don't know that I'm Irish, but my father always claimed we had ancestors who were sheep rustlers on the the boundary of one of the counties of Ireland. They would look for some unattended herd, then shout "Roogie! Roogie! Over the border and away!" and get the sheep across the county line where they could dispose of them with impunity.

sletia: those are two mean images. Your Little Pony is "Clover Bloom" from the "My Little Pony Tales" but that's all I know.

Belldandy16: Sakura can be very Irish at times, especially when she gets mad and flames start to flicker in those green eyes.

beatrush: Thanks for the extras. That El-Hazard harmony watercolor is a true masterpiece, and truly magical as Irish faery landscapes can be. And the super angry Shayla is scary/sexy in a way that few cels can be.

irmgaard: Gon can look a lot like a leprechaun at times, can't he.

lcatino: Another closet lubberkin! Thanks!

rei: I was hoping we'd get at least one Wood Card. County Derry is her home turf!

Here's one more for the road (may it rise to meet ye'):

Tonde Buurin: The keg runs dry at St. Ringo's annual St. Pat's Day parade (and just when Masami's successfully dyed her hair green in honor of the occasion)

My ancestors are Irish Protestants, so actually in my case green means nothing (associated with the Catholic). Irish Protestants are known as Orangemen.
