Show me: a cel or sketch you'd NEVER put up for offers

Post by sensei »

With so many gallery offers these last few weeks, I thought it might be time for a little trend-bucking "show me." Show me one (just one) item in your collection that you would never consider an offer on, no matter how dire your financial condition or how generous the offer. It might be something really impressive or rare or droolworthy, or, alternatively, it might be something that has so much personal significance to you that you plan to leave it to your heirs.

I'll start:

http://sensei.rubberslug.com/gallery/in ... mID=157316

OMG, my heart still skips a beat when I see this one. Color, foreshortening, tension, composition, apparent three-dimensionality -- this one has everything I'd ever want in a cel. And all on one sheet of acetate (nope, no special effects layers -- everything painted on the same cel).

I don't want your greenback dollar
I don't want your doggone yen
All I want is this, my Firey
Don't you offer me again.

Others? (Don't forget to say why.)

Well I could definately say that this one from Ranma 1/2 is one I would never consider parting with reguardless what dollar amount would be offered.

http://ryan.rubberslug.com/gallery/inv_ ... emID=66768

A tender moment when Ranma 1st realizes that Akane does have a gentle , kind side to her and is not just the violent tomboy she comes off as. The 1st embers of their romance start to glow.
"Like the wind crying endlessly through the universe, Time carries away the names and the deeds of conquerors and commoners alike. And all that we are, all that remains, is in the memories of those who cared we came this way for a brief moment." Harlan Ellison

It was hard to choose one and this one just barely beat out the other I was thinking of posting.

I never knew a sketch could be so beautiful and it's very rare to find her in this particular outfit. I just love it!

I definitely have more than a couple that I could never accept offers on, but if I have to pick JUST ONE, then it would have to be Sonic and Sally:

http://likeabutterfly.rubberslug.com/ga ... mID=256956

There are many reasons:
Sonic SatAM art is so hard to find, let alone opening cels. And its in pristine condition.

Not only does it come from the opening of Sonic SatAM, but the climax of the opening, right after Princess Sally has kissed Sonic.

I sold my first car for the money to purchase this cel and I won the winning bid at exactly the same amount I sold it for.

I actually had a psychic premonition that I would find this cel two days before it appeared on Ebay.

And I just love Sonic's whipped expression!

Boy, this one was tough, as there are a couple I am
really attached to, but after careful consideration, I
chose this:

Not sure I can give a clear cut reason why other than
I absolutely adore it. :o

I know its supposed to be only one but these two pieces I will never sell. I was very fortnate to obtain them (wish I could get the other 3 I am missing....... I am a little greedy) and they mean a lot to me.

If I ever became homeless, they would be sitting in my shopping cart next to my cans and bottles (in proper protection too :P )

I have a decent number of pieces I would most likely never accept any offer on... but this one is near the top of that list:

Never in a million years did I ever expect to even see a Gundam Wing hanken cel for sale, let alone afford one at the price I paid for this one. It has most of the main characters of the series, the original matching background, and is in excellent condition (despite having been taped and stapled at some point). Everytime I pull this out of my oversized-artwork book, I can't believe I was fortunate enough to win it. :) It's a great warm-and-fuzzy feeling :D.

Although it'd really be 90% of my IY collection and there are others that give me that 'gut wrench' when I look @ them -- this is the one that came to mind as it was my first truly 'special' cel and was a somewhat 'one of a kind' at the time (everybody seems to have one now  ):

http://bakainu.rubberslug.com/gallery/i ... mID=139234

I got this one at a time when I was working out-of-state, away from home and living in corporate housing for three months assisting the set-up of a new office in a city/area I found I didn't particularly care for -- the apartment complex I was staying in was populated mostly by a people of a different culture -- which I had no problem with but they seemed to be terrified of my very large Great Dane -- and, as such, made a wide berth (and I mean w-i-d-e, as in 2 parking lots/fields away) around us whenever we went outside. Maybe they just saw 'Cugo' too many times :? :P

Anyway, to make a super long story short (I know 'too late!') I was SO excited to have won this auction and, when I held this sweet shot in my hands, I felt the Cel Gods had truly smiled upon me and that it was a really good thing that I was working in this unfamiliar city that was not by the water making all the extra $$ to be able to afford this beauty

Great thread topic sensei!
I dont think we've ever had a thread
on which cel we "wouldnt" ever sell in all the yrs
I've been here.
Kudos for a fresh discussion lol
:hitting:

Hmmm this is tougher than I realized..
I'd have to say there are whole sections
I wouldnt consider offers on
LOL!

But if i had to pick one its definetely still this one:

Although there are many items that I would never part with (like the majority of my Miyuki-chan collection), this is truly the one item that I could NEVER sell: http://stemcels.rubberslug.com/gallery/ ... mID=205449
My two favorite card spirits on one piece of artwork, and in a full-body shot where you can see their awesome outfits. I'd never find anything like it ever again.
