Have you ever ..............

Post by JWR »

Ok confession time :dgrin

When you have been searching for cels/sketches on YJ, Ebay and dealer sites ect. have you ever considered or actually made a purchase because you thought that the image would be a perfect piece to enter in a perticular catagory of the Beta Awards? :hitting:

That thought had crossed my mind, but I never went with it. :D

But I haven't thought about it much since the second award contest.

I have won items and thought they'd be a good submission choice, though. But when I buy artwork, I don't think about the accolades I could possibly receive. I buy stuff because I like it. If I win an award for it, great. If not, that's fine too.

I guess you could say that I'm one of those people that doesn't like to think about the 'What Ifs' until I have the item in my paws.

But upon receipt of a nifty artwork item... I, like a redheaded stepchild banshee, stand over the artwork and madly cackle over its future ownage in the Anime Beta Awards.

Not really :P yet..

I'd love to get some female psychotic artwork for that category, but there isn't enough to be found. :D

I've done that a couple of times. But I only do it on items that under 1000 yen, (no comission :P ) and are from a series I like the artwork of.

Sad part is, I never get them in time for an awards. X|

Not as a primary or strong secondary reason for adding something to my collection. Those are (and are likely to remain): Important moment, eyeworthiness, and fit with my existing collection.

But on receiving new pieces, I've at various times thought about which cel/sketch category they might be competitive in. Usually, though, when I have actually entered such pieces, I find out that I'm wrong about how strong they are as entries in the contest, so it's not an idea that I entertain often or for long.

I'll be honest, the thought has crossed my mind in the past, but usually only after the initial "ooooh! I want that!" reaction passes. I don't recall ever using it as an excuse to actually complete a purchase, though -- only as an added bonus sorta thing. :D

In my case I have thought about a few items I saw but actually have only made 1 500yen purchase and then totally forgot to enter that item in the last sketch awards X|

Not really. I might think, hey that's a nice piece for the beta awards but i never buy for that purpose. Besides I only have enough money to buy the series I collect and if it so happens that it's a nice enough piece to enter great. If not well it's more important to me to feel good about a piece that I "think" goes well with the collection.

I've seen artworks that made me think how suitable they'd be for certain award categories....but no, I've never bought because of that.

For me part of the thrill of the awards come from coincidentally having pieces that would fit the categories.

I don't think that I've ever even thought about buying a piece of artwork in order to enter it in the Beta Awards. Thankfully, the Beta Award categories are broad enough that it is possible for most collectors to enter buying artwork that one likes for sentimental or aesthetic reasons. However, I have thought about buying artwork because I surmised that it would make a great avatar or banner based on its cuteness, but I never actually went through with any of those purchases. *shrug*
