Post by Silvrdrago »

A fun cel puzzle for you'll, why do these 2 Evangelion cels of the same scene exsist?

the one from my collection (with scans of it's paper items)

And the one currently forsale on mandarake

http://ekizo.mandarake.co.jp/auc_e/item ... 9960100001

the only hint i'll give for now is that neither is fake (we'll like 99.99% on that, didn't bother to confirm my hypotheis, since it seemed kinda obvious, to me atleast :-)

There are similar puzzles for other series. In Tenshi ni Narumon, there's a famous moment when the evil minion Muse curses her mistress Silky. A number of cels from that moment have come up FA recently. Unifortunately, when you freexe the frames in the scene, none of the cels match up: not just different colors but visibly different perspectives and poses. I assume this is because the first version of the footage was rejected and the scene was redesigned, with new cels designed and ordered.

At a critical moment in CCS Ep. 42 (the "Sleeping Beauty" adventure) there are bunches of similar but not-quite identical cels: different colors, different shadow lines, in places different modeling of hands. I think the same thing happened: rejected first version, redesigned second version, new cels ordered.

Finally, the CCS animators reused the animation for a magical attack that Sakura's helper Yue uses. (It works in Ep. 69, doesn't work in the second movie.) Both my cels come from the movie, so I can't say for sure, but I think the TV cels are standard TV size, while the movie cels are oversized. They have the exact same posing and colors, but, as I determined a while ago, the dougas were redrawn, so there are lots of little differences in the trace lines.

All of these are "genuine" cels vs. fancels. Some are less genuine than others as they weren't actually used in the making of the anime. But they are still real production cels: none are fakes or fancels.

If I remember correctly they had to "recreate" a lot of scenes for the Movies due to a lot of the original show being given away or stolen.

joes reason is the why of them haveing to make 2 cels

Sensei's thought was my initial consideration, because the mandarake has been retouched alot, but the give away was the cut number, the mandarke one is cut #515.......the average tv show only has 220-250 cuts, that means it can only have been from a movie, mine is cut number 29 which means is from the early part of a production.....so thats what explained it all to me
