Kagome is under a lot of pressure since this is early in the series, and she hasn't really fought any youkai herself at this point, and the whole situation is still crazy to her. Inuyasha thinks of her as completely helpless, but then he is the one to be rendered just about helpless, so it is up to Kagome to save the day!
