bit of moisture when framing

Post by hgeek23 »

Hey, i just "finished" putting together my framed cel. I used quite a bit of water-activated archival linen hinging tape, which Blick assured me was "what museums use--its safe!". Looking at it now though, it seems like a bit of moisture may have been trapped somewhere either between the cel and plastic bag separating the cel from my homemade background, or between the background and the sheet.

My question is--do i have to restart this process, pull it all apart? This is my first really nice cel and i want it to stick around--need i be worried?

Heya!

Part of the problem may be the fact that you're using a plastic bag in the frame itself, something a museum probably won't do. ;)

Even without any preexisting moisture, depending in part on the environment in which the piece is displayed, you're very likely to have condensation building up on the walls of the plastic bag. I would strongly recommend framing the piece without the bag - which I assume will also improve its appearance, as well. Two good thangs for the price of one!

Well I could float the cel, but then i have the issue of the 2nd layer. it's a SFX layer and a normal cel. The SFX layer has airbrushed on the front the paint, rather than the back, so im concerned about the paint rubbing off on the boards that seal the cels in place.

Did you picture the moisture detail with your camera? Would be useful for records :)

Didnt capture that on camera. I removed and redid everything, floating it and making sure that there was no moisture.
