final 4 days in Japan

Post by hgeek23 »

I have been blogging my experiences in Japan at adamjjapan.blogspot.com. Days 1-4 are my sightseeing, 5-12 are a forum which won't be very interesting to anyone here (although there are night-excursions with some pictures), and 13-[the end of my trip] is sightseeing again.
I will be returning to Tokyo later today for 2 days there.
So far in all of my attempts to purchase any genga (or find any for that matter), I have failed. Mandarake in Umeda, Amerikamura, Nakano, and Akihabara had only cels (and very little at that), and I am stumped as to where else to look.
Also, I only found cosplay at Mandarake for women. Was I missing something? Is there a specific cosplay shop I should be on the lookout for? I plan on going back to akihabara, but I am worried I will leave Japan completely empty handed. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Twin_Angel's shop is probably the best I have found for genga. He's always got a lot of stuff.
The store is in Nakano Braodway, and is a few paces down the hall from one of Mandarake's levels (I'm drawing a blank as to which level X| I remember seeing auction cels in one of Mandarake's cabinets, so maybe its the level with all the animation stuff )
Best way I can explain it, is: If you are standing right in front of a Mandarake entrance (and facing it), turn left down the hall for a few steps. At the end of the hallway on the left again is his shop. It's pretty hard to miss, because he has some small cabinets outside his store with genga/cels in. And as soon as you look inside, you'll know you are there. :P
Hope that helps a little.

It helps a lot. One last thing then is cosplay. Where the heck do I get cosplay that is not in woman sizes and has a selection from gundam 00 or geass? Mandarake has nothing and k books has nothing. I'm sure there has got to be somewhere?

It is on the same floor as Mandrake, right down the hall.
It is called Anime Comit (or something like that), and yes,
they are the same as the seller on YHJ Twin_Angel. ^_^
Parthenon Productions is right across the hall.

Thanks. Kind of bummed my jr east pass cost 5000 more than if I'd just bought individual tickets. Trying to figure out a shinkansen route I could knock off for fun to justify some cost. Any suggestions?

If you pick up one of the shinkansen timetable books, you'll be able to work out which routes you can do in a day.
I did Tokyo-Kyoto a few times. It only takes a couple of hours - and if you're lucky you will get a good view of Mt Fuji as you go past. If you've got the time, you can also make a side-trip to Kyoto Animation (from Kyoto station.) You'll have to find a train that goes past Kohata station. Kyoto Animation is just across the road from that station, and there is a gift shop further down (but they can give you directions)

I also did Tokyo-Shin Osaka. Its a couple hour trip too. :)
