What would you collect...

Post by cutiebunny »

...if you had the funds and industry connections to get what you truly want? In short, what item(s) would you collect if you could not only afford to do it (but not buy everything), but could arrange to get it? Would you want to go dumpster diving at a particular studio's bin, and if so, which one? Would you focus on a particular scene or something less narrow such as a movie, episode or artwork drawn by a favorite artist? Would you choose one specific type of artwork, such as settei, from a particular studio? If sketches are more your thing, maybe you'd like to meet a particular artist and ask them for a sketch?

This board is so quiet...I hope someone answers...

Edit - So, if all things were possible and I wouldn't end up in prison, here are some things I would do -

- Release my inner shinobi and break into the local Viz branch to pilfer the shikishi from the infamous "Wall of Shikishi". Ok, I'm not totally greedy and I might leave a couple behind (no promises...I know I can take better care of them than Viz), but it's be so worth it. I also harbor a serious hatred of Viz, so anything I can do to tick them off makes me a happy camper.

- Fly off to Japan, timing it during certain magazine promotions, and raiding their local offices whenever artwork is slated to be given away. If you ever want to make a grown woman cry, show me some of New Year's postcards to be given away in magazines like Hana to Yume. It's just sheer cruelty to an original artwork collector that these things are given away and, if you're lucky, you might see one of them for sale years later.

I think I'd get a Please Save My Earth cel.

It's always kind of bothered me that I never was able to get one. I get nostalgic about the earlier anime that I watched. They remind me of simpler times.

I'd want to get all my Escaflowne wishlist cels, but if I had to be more specific, I'd want my Millerna wishlist cels. There are so many Millerna cels I'd kill for, but this is probably the one I want the most:

This one comes in as a very close second:

If time travel were possible, I'd go dumpster diving for Fleischer Superman cels; very few exist, because they were thrown away by the studio.

If I had the money, I'd collect Kenichi Sonoda Shikishi, vintage Disney artwork, and high-end Evangelion.

I would get Daria cels/sketches of Quinn, Powerpuff Girls, My Little Pony G1, and Chipettes cels. Anime cels are nice, but I can get them anytime I want.

Daria cels existed? I would absolutely kill for one of Daria and Jane!

They did until season four when they started to use computer animation. I think MTV gave some away in contests, but I don't know what happened to the other art from it.

Have you ever seen any of them for sale? Man, I wish I knew where they were, too!

I search for them every day on eBay and there's only that one from Beavis and Butt-Head I don't want that the seller keeps alternating between $39 and $125. I've never seen a Daria cel for sale anywhere.

I saw this myself when I looked at "Sold Listings" and was squinting pretty slowly at that.

If the cels were being given away, I wonder if there's a bunch of people with them who don't really know what they are or their value and didn't care for them properly. I'm crying.

Well... for the most part, I do buy what I want... otherwise, I wouldn't buy it.
The search is part of the... fun. :)

However, in fantasy land where all things are possible, I'd definitely get the Akira cel with the background of Kaneda skidding sideways on his bike after playing chicken with the Clown Boss (https://youtu.be/hQ8SLAEmyCI?t=186). I'd also have the original art for the Guyver Hanken of Sho pulling back part of his armor to show his face (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bio_Boost ... olume1.jpg); and the original art for the first LaserDisc cover of MD Geist (http://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/04932/ID2235CT/).

For American comics, I'd have the original comic art of the cover of Wolverine with his broken claws from Wolverine #79 (http://comicvine.gamespot.com/wolverine ... 000-38835/).

My more realistic long shots are that I'm still hoping that at some point I can obtain cels and/or sketches from:

I haven't collected in so long, I don't even know. I remember I was sad I missed some OP/ED sets from Princess Resurrection. A single perfect sketch from One Piece if it even exists, not sure what it would be. Same for Utena (a genga or layout or something). Ooooh, I know. A Totoro and/or Nekobus.

Legit Daria cels or sketches would be amazing, although I'd mostly only want to see them.

If I had the chance it would be the original Eyvind Earle backgrounds from Sleeping Beauty. I just love his art work.
