Do It Yourself Cel Painting Sets

Post by Fiore »

I'm back with more questions. 8O Recently ordered me a set of Macross DIY Cel Painting. I think these hobby sets look really fun and are a great idea! Did they stop producing these when cel animation died out, or do some places still make them? I don't know why they would stop as this idea is really nice and if brought back might be a nostalgia hit IMO.XD (Who wouldn't love to paint their fav character in cel form to hang up??)

Does any know when they began making these, and when they stopped? What companies produced these? What series were made available in these? Anymore info on it's history would be great.<3

When I searched I was very surprised to see a few kits released that featured American series like Batman, Bugs Bunny, and Hanna Barbra. These kit's sometimes even coming with paints, brushes and gloves! So cute!
As for Japanese Anime, I only saw Harlock, Macross and Sailor moon.

If anyone owns a set, have you painted them? I would love to see them!
I was able to see a few unpainted cel's of Leiji Matsumoto's characters up on rubberslug before. :)

Probably this:

Look at the "GSI" column, the number and the order of the color matched your reference.

Animation Cel Paint has a high pigment content and dries to a matt, flat appearance. It was good, and I got it online in this shop animeshoppie.com specifically for anime painting .
