What they said :-)

Kenshin, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Slayers... all way up there at the top of action series as absolute classics. Slayers is the only series I enjoy equally well in English.

Naruto, Gundam Seed (if you like good stories with mech action), Hellsing also excellent.

Most of what everyone has said here I'd agree with, hands down (although I don't know that Chobits really qualifies as an action series...). You might want to rent a DVD or two before you consider buying them, though, because some are rather the kind of shows that you will either like instantly or dislike instantly.

I only got one show to recommend. It's already over and it's on dvd. It's also dubbed.

GUNGRAVE

Let me know what you think if you check it out.

Wow, a lot of shows have been mentioned here. The Action genre is right up my street so I can recommend some titles, espeially titles which have been out for a few years and easily available to buy.

King Tonberry, you also mentioned that you're keen on dubbed boxsets to save space etc here are some series available as such:

-- JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. A thinking-person's fighting anime which recently had it's dub release in the US last year.
-- Blue Submarine 6
-- Project ARMS
-- IRIA
-- Ghost in the Shell : Stand Alone Complex (I've got a sub, not dub)

If you're looking to buy anime I also know of a dozen+ good retailers. for good prices/service check out http://www.meganimedvd.com

If you don't mind buying bootlegs from asia I know a few reliable retailers. It often pays to buy in bulk to save on shipping costs and you can sometimes haggle a little, especially if you're informed about the postage costs

You like Ghost in the Shell, Krafty?

I've been watching it, but I think it moves a bit too slow. Not the first show I think of when I think "action." All I've really seen is a lot of observation and little action. Don't get me wrong, it's not a "bad" show. . . But then, I s'pose it might be more interesting if I were a guy and could get into watching a well bit droid walk around in a teddy for a half-hour.

Hi Kisara, I agree that the GITS series is pretty slow, I guess that I like it because I've been following for the story/characters for many years. I enjoy the company's output (Studio I.G.)- the style and visual quality always impresses me.

The thing with Shirow's work is that it's so complex, it requries a lot of dialogue to explain things. When I first read the manga I had to re-read a few books a couple of times to understand what was being discussed. I like anime/manga that makes me think rather than all-out action done just for show.

However I've been watching another series today (seen 7 of 26 eps)- Sci-Fi Harry. I thought the storyline would be interesting, a physically weak boy, bullied at school who then awakens destructive psychic powers; like Tetsuo in Akira. Despite the lush artwork, the story is SO SLOW but I'm hoping it'll pick up. some new characters have ben introduced to liven things up so I'm praying they do just that!
So far this is not a series I'd recommend to action/sci-fi fans.

I actually like the "look" of it too. Especially the CG opening. Which I think is what made me dislike it even more: I was all excited about it, then. . big let-down.

I watched it lastnight, just becuase it was on in-between FMA and Inuyasha. It was "chat, chat, chat." I'm sticking to my first impression. . .slllooooowwww.
