What's in a name

Post by Gonzai »

I have been watching Tenjho Tenge (That is how I spell it),
but when I started looking for the OVA, it was amazing
the different ways I found it was spelled. The reason I spell
it like I do, is cause of the YHJ auctions:

http://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/77065057

But check out these eBay auction spellings:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 11446&rd=1

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 66265&rd=1

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 35870&rd=1

Its no wonder sometimes I can't find DVD's I am looking for. :shrug

Any other examples you guys can think of??

Not any animes, but I can think of several character names that no-one seems to agree about spelling. First we have the ever popular Sesshoumaru or Sesshomaru or even Sesshoumarou. Then there is Toya/Tooya/Touya or Yuki/Yuuki, Sota/Souta and on and on. Sure there's more, but I'm too tired to think of any right now.

Well...this hardly affects anyone here, but in English I always have to look up the four ways of spelling "Classmate":

1. Doukyuusei
2. Doukyusei
3. Dokyuusei
4. Dokyusei

If I don't check all four spellings I miss stuff. 8O

I used to have sets of three multiple links to several different shows on YJ (English, kana and kanji), but I lost them all when my hard drive went down in November. You never know what you can miss when someone spells titles in an unusual way. I've seen "Pia Carrot" spelled four different ways. Not easy to do.
