Yugioh GX dub names

Post by KT »

These are the names for the Yugioh GX dub *dies*

Japanese = English

Yuki Judai = Jaden Yuki (Yes, Yuki is his last name x_x)

Asuka Tenjoin = Alexis Rhodes

Shou Marufuji = Syrus Truesdale

Maeda Hayato = Chumley Huffington

Ryo Marufuji = Zane Truesdale

Jun Manjoume = Chazz Princeton

Daichi Misawa = Bastion Misawa

These name changes piss me off more than the Yugioh dub name changes! :x :l

Very strange! I would think they'd at least try to keep the same initials. :?

So, do you know why they changed the names?
Can you hear this fangirl squee?!

They change the names so that American children can pronounce them, remember them, and ask for their toys by character name. It makes them more "marketable."

Seriously, it's very difficult to remember a series of names that aren't in your native tongue unless you've had practice. Quite frankly, the majority of children watching these show don't realize that they come from Japan. I was watching Yugioh in Japanese while my little brother's friends were over, adn one of them said, "Ummm, you know that's in Spanish?" 8O :rollin Sure kid, if you say so. :x

Probably because the dubbers thought those names were best for the characters.

The Doctor : … and then, just to finish off, I’m going to wipe every last stinking Dalek out of the sky !
Dalek : But you have no weapons ! No defenses ! No plan !
The Doctor : Yeah ! And doesn’t that scare you to death ?

Any word of Chronos-sensei's name? Or are they keeping it? I have no problem with British accents or what-have-you. Nothing the English dub can do can be worse than Chronos-sensei's "Italian" accent in the original. I thought Pegasus's "English" was bad in Japanese (I prefer his English dub voice!), but Chronos takes the prize for horrendous accents.

Hector the Collector loved these things with all his soul,
Loved them more than shining diamonds, loved them more than glistenin' gold.
Hector called to all the people,"Come and share my treasure trunk!"
And all the silly sightless people came and looked...and called it junk.

Oh pooh.

My girls could rattle off the entire cast of Fushigi Yuugi before they could correctly pronounce their own last name, (what with all the L's in "lowell" they actually made it sound kinda Japanese, too!)

(Yes, I realize you were being sarcastic, Klet :D )

I wish the dubbers would give kids a little credit. They know how to use bittorrent and read subtitles just as well as the adults do and they aren't retarded.

Pitiful names! *tsk*
