The Ugly yet Beautiful World

Ok I just got done watching the latest "freebee" dvd that comes with my Newtype-USA magazine that had Episode 1 of this new series called "The Ugly Yet Beautiful World" and I'm quite intriqued by it.
The story seems interesting (kind of SciFi/romance/comedy) and the art and character designs are nice. The problem is that IT'S BY GAINAX!
After the cosmic brain twists and poorly written endings *coughMahoromatic/Evacough* I'm leary of getting into this show only to end up wanting to throw things at the screen when it's over.
So if anyone knows about this one or seen it and without spoiling the story for those who might be thinking about watching it. Please let me know if it's worth buying/watching.

It was definitely worth watching. Not the best thing in the world, but nice and
solid. Definitely not near as bad an ending as Mahoromatic.

I was watching as it came out on fansub, but gave up on it after about a dozen episodes

There's only 13 eps, so you gave up with only one left?

I didn't know that it was close to the end when I got bored with it. Guess I will have to get the last episode or two and at least be able to say I finished it.
