Why you love DBZ

Post by minigt »

It seems a while since anyone has posted anything, so I thought I should ask something that I have always wondered.

Why do you love DBZ?

I have no doubt someone might have asked this question previously (probably when DBZ was more popular)!

I have just finished watching the majority of the Original Japanese DBZ series and it has made me fall in love with DBZ al over again.

I love the depth of the characters, the anticipation during powering up to the next level (SSJ1,2 and 3) and of course the fights.

It seem like you really get to know the characters personalities really well throughout each saga.

Does anyone else feel the same or do you love it for other reasons?

Yes, I feel excatly the way you do about the series. I don't mind the lengthy fight scenes that may take 10 episodes or so to actually finish. I know this is one of the main complaints I've heard in the past from those who don't care for the series. I liked the story, fights, and especially the characters. It really can draw you in. In fact, like you, I need to get the series for myself so I can get sucked in again. :D

It may seem geeky....

But.

When I watched the show, the art style, the character's personalities and the awesome attacks/fights really drew me in. But most of all, it was (at the time) unlike anything I had ever seen. I really loved watching the transformations and each episode only made me want to know what happened before (if i hadn't seen it) and what would happen next.

I always could identify with each character. And after awhile, (this is the geeky part) it felt like you really KNEW them.

I almost cried when Gohan screamed for his dad to come back when he sacrificed himself to save them all from Cell. And the same for when Goku returned to meet Goten. You feel like you've been on this long journey with all these guys and you've known them for a long time, since DB/DBZ covers such an expansive amount of time in Goku's life.

It's sad when you see the last episode because you know this is the end of a fun part of your life. It's like when your best friend moves away. Sure you'll always be able to revisit each other, but it'll never be the same as it was.

I miss Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, Piccolo and the rest and when I feel down or bad I go visit them in an episode that reminds me of a time that's gone by.

(end of geeky)

So Im not alone!!!

I feel exactly the same way you guys do and Bleeding Orange, I think you described it best - when it finished it was like loosing a good friend.

Then GT started and it felt like the friend had returned and become totally different! But I guess that's another post.

For those who haven't watched the Japanese versions (with subtitles), I thoroughly recommend doing so. There are some notable differences in the scripts and the music really gives it a different feel. I am almost tempted to say that they were better!
