Pluto
Pluto
Hi,
Now I know I am not the only one who has thought of this. Pluto is no longer a planet. While scholars and teachers are thinking, crap, we have to redo the text books and remember there are now only 8 planets, I have a different problem.
What about one of my favorite anime characters, Pluto? I mean if she is no longer a planet then she can't be a sailor scout, can't hold a star seed, and can't control time. I see a big problem with this. It concerns me that these so called scholars who voted didn't take a moment to consider what their decision might do to the Sailor Moon community.
Well, I for one think this is ridiculous and Pluto will always be a planet in my mind. How can we have the outer scouts without Pluto?
Thanks for reading and rally with me to fight this problem!

You are too cute, B-fly girl.
Everyone I know is boycotting the change and will continue to refer to pluto
as a planet in our solar system. Kind of hard to disregard an addition made
in the 1930s.

As far as Sailor Pluto is concerned, perhaps she can be considered a special
scout now. The secret planet... or something... I'm looking for a silver lining here.
Anyone know what Naoko Takeuchi thinks about all this?

Great Idea Welcome Consumer! We need to invite Naoko Takeuchi to Beta and ask her what she thinks!!! LOL It is kind of funny that I was thinking of posting a thread regarding this same topic! But I do like the silver lining idea because #1 I believe that it is wise to put faith in the scientific community as well as their newest discoveries leading us to a more truthful future and #2 Sailor Moon fans have something new to think about! It has been too long since I have seen any Sailor Moon toys, videos, or ANYTHING in stores...we could use this as the new Sailor Moon revival!!! ^.^ Or maybe Naoko would be interested in making a new season!!!...ok that is a little far-fetched I guess!

I agree with Bran-chan, because there are the Asteroid Senshi, as well as Sailor Galaxia and so-forth (the senshi in the Mangas as well). So Pluto is still a senshi
Just like Sailor Moon is for the Moon, which isn't even a planet but a satellite.
I saw this topic being discussed on Livejournal, so I thought it was cool that it popped up here as well. And WelcomeConsumer, you are too funny!
To be honest, since this was a big debate at my college (we are all a bunch of space nerds), I highly agree with downgrading Pluto for a few reasons. The main obvious one is it's irregular orbit that brings it closer to the Sun than Neptune. Also, the new "dwarf-planets" that have been discovered are either around the size of Pluto or bigger, but all also have an irregular, more egg-shaped orbit around the sun, rather than elliptical like all 8 of the other planets. And also, of the new "dwarf-planets" found, they all share the same characteristic of that of Pluto, meaning that they don't fall into the terrestrial and jovian planets that we have classified today. This means it's possible they will set up a new classification for these dwarf-planets sometime soon, especially since they've downgraded Pluto to that category.
Boy did I get too scientific or what? LOL...I just wanted to share my point in why I think the International Astronomy fellows did the right thing. I know some will argue against my point, but remember...it's MY opinion with real facts thrown in.

heh, another friend of mine mentioned this and I giggled. I was trying to remember who Sailor Pluto was and I was like... oh duh! It's Setsuna. ^^;;
But yeah, it's kinda silly with this new definition thing going around. They haven't decided on the change yet have they? Then there ought to be Asteroid Senshi!! Sailor Ceres sounds cool, though ^_~ I'd claim her! haha

Hi,
How did I guess you were going to say something like that SME? Actually thought of putting a note in my first post about what you might say.
Wow, okay I do realize there are different kinds of scouts but in our solar system I really liked the idea of the 9 planets protecting Sailor Moon. But then again it brings up a good point of why the other moons in our solar system don't have scouts. In any event I just personally, like the idea of the outer planets not the outer planets and the rock Pluto.

P.S. Don't yell at me for saying "rock pluto"

It's all OK because she's the Senshi of time. So, she went back in time to the 1930s when Pluto really was a planet, where she earned her rank as a senshi. Then she came back to modern day. A bit paradoxical, but most time travel is anyway.
How many software programmers does it take to change a light bulb?
None, that's a hardware problem.
