Post by caisha »

Hi there,

Could you please sign the online petition that will be used to get the old dubbed version of "My Neighbor Totoro" onto DVD?

Thank you!

That's odd, I thought the original dubbed made it to DVD a while back before Disney's version did? I had the original version on VHS. I really loved the original dub. The voice actors did such a great job with it.

Hmm, but wasn't it placed on DVD years ago (dub only, no original japanese w/subtitles) before the Disney version came out?

^_^ I actually have one of those. Didn't care for the fullscreen of it, and the grainy video. Probably because it was transferred directly from the VHS tape. =P

You could probably find the DVDs in stores. Don't think Disney blocked them, or have they? *scratches head*

This may be an old topic, but i will sign the petition anyway...

I have both versions on dvd. I found the original dub at walmart in the bargain bin for $5.50. Pretty good deal.

Then a while later, i had to get the new one. I love widescreen, and i wanted to see it like that. I have to say, i didnt like the new dub as well as the old one......they will always be dust bunnies to me.......So what i do, is since i have both. I hook up two dvd players, one with the disney dvd, the other with the fox.

All i had to do was put the video cable from the disney one and the audio cable from the Fox one.

Just have to sync them and it works fine. That may be a lot of trouble but its worth it.

I have both dubs on DVD. One was done by Fox and the other by Disney. I doubt you'll see the original dub as a remastered edition in the states because Disney doesn't own that dub. You might find the original version on an international release, much like the UK release of Akira. It is the only DVD version to feature the original dub as a bonus feature, but the video was not remastered. Don't count on Disney to use Fox's original dub though. It's just not likely. Plus, Ghibli has final say on how Disney handled these releases, so they probably didn't care about/for the Fox dub anyway. If Ghibli doesn't want it, Disney won't pursue it.
