Samurai X: Directors Cut
Is this worth buying if you have the original OVA dvd boxset? I mean are there extra scenes or DVD features?

Personally, I prefer the original format OVA versions. The 'Director's Cut' is kind of a farce. There is only one 'new' scene, and it's just a badly rotoscoped scene of Kenshin fighting his way across a bridge- it only lasts for a couple of seconds. Plus, in several scenes, they changed the music, which really bothers me, just because I love the OVAs so much and I don't like it when they change things like this; like the whole scene when Kenshin firsts sees Tomoe in the rain- they put in an entirely different musical track from somewhere else in the movie into that scene. Then, the biggest insult is the "widescreen" format on the Director's Cut disk. You can't make an anime that was animated at a 4:3 ratio and suddenly make it 16:9. It's impossible. So in order to achieve this 'widescreen' look, they had to cut off sections of both the bottom and top of the footage to add in the black bars to give it the look of 'widescreen'. So now you are also being cheated of the whole image when you watch this 'Director's Cut' version.
In all honesty, I really don't think it's worth the extra money you'll have to shell out, especially if you already have the original format OVAs. The only 'Director's Cut' I can say is worth going out and buying is of 'Reflections/Seisouhen', only because there are some re-added scenes that I feel are extremely important to Kenshin's character and his relationship with Kaoru, and should never have been left out.

I totally agree with Maiko
For me, I had to buy the director's cut for Seisouhen b/c of the scenes between Kenshin and Kaoru. Also I highly suggest to listen in Japanese version as well.. For English dubbed, they cut so much (I don't know why) and I felt that they did not cover so well.....

I'm probably no help... I would buy anything RK related on DVD. But the Director's Cut Seisouhen I think is better than the Tsuikohen DC. Only because there seems to be more extra footage in Seisouhen DC while Tsuikohen. Note though I am only speaking about the DC versions footage and not comparing the story of Tsuikohen and Seisouhen per se both in DC and regular form. I hope I made sense..

I mean dubbing is dubbing is changed. I means when they translated they changes some lines.... Some lines do not make so much sense. Also many lines are cut. I think this is b/c there are not enough voice actors.....majinuub wrote: Kittens, do you mean the english DVD version is censored or the dubbing is changed?
