"Tokyopop Splits into Two Companies - Cuts Production 50%"
http://www.icv2.com/articles/news/12677.html
Bad news for the manga output, possibly good news for more anime and live-action films.
One way or the other, it looks like there's going to be far less titles coming out in the near future.

“The time is now for us to focus our publishing business to overcome current market challenges. Few releases will allow for less cannibalization at retail.”

At this point they have to struggle with setting up the company, dubbing and so forth. Hopefully the stuff that they release will not be too expensive

Well the last 3 (if i remember correctly) volumes of Fruits Basket have been released approximately 6 months apart. I think it's completely ridiculous when the manga series ended 2 1/2 years ago.
With only 5 volumes left, why wait so long to get such a well known series on the shelves? It's not as if there is any doubt at how well they will sell once they are available.
Maybe that is just a small taste of what the US manga industry will become for good. Maybe it will become even worse.
I don't see this working in their favor at all though, regardless of which route they take in the end.
I understood if the series was still being written in Japan, but if a series is finished there is no reason not to release them in a timely manner in the US.

Lol... Maybe they are slowly releasing the volumes so you can keep going back to the book store to check and maybe you'll buy other manga instead.miz ducky wrote:Well the last 3 (if i remember correctly) volumes of Fruits Basket have been released approximately 6 months apart. I would think people would get angry after 2.5 years and go online and read the scanlations instead. So I think it's hurting them.
