It was one of the top animes I've been looking forward to watch this year. Overall, I thought it was quite good. The characters had quite a lot of development. We got to see their good side and even their darker sides. Someone pointed out that the characters in Toradora does something most other animes don't, and that is showing what each character thinks of the other characters (not just the main characters like Taiga and Takasu but also everyone else). My favorite episodes were the ones centering around Taiga and her father, when her father left her alone again, and Takasu and Minori did everything they could to get back to her side so she wouldn't be alone. It was very dramatic and heartwarming. I'm not sure how I feel about the ending though. I mean, it was clearly done well, but I was rooting for the Takasu x Minori pairing, so I was very disappointed that it never happened. I thought this anime was unique in that instead of a guy trying to get a girl like usual, this time it's about a guy and a girl who likes their friends instead, and they team up to try to make it happen. I thought this idea was fresh and unique, but I was a little disappointed that, in the end, it went back to the 2 main characters falling in love routine. They did like try to squish a lot of things in those last few episodes; almost felt a little rushed. I thought Minori deserved better. She clearly liked Takasu, but for her best friend, Taiga, she held back, and it was clearly painful for her to do, especially when Takasu starting being more obvious about his feelings for her at some point. I do wonder what would've happened if Minori didn't happen to see Taiga scream for Yuuji when she was on the way to the Christmas party. Why was Minori working so many jobs? I think I missed something because I don't remember her mentioning why. Did it have something to do with baseball? So, yea, aside from my big disappointment that Minori and Takasu never became a pair, I thought the series had a very powerful story and characters and was nicely done. I like the show for the most part....the last episode bugged me....i don't find the plot line of Tiga running away from Yujji to be with her mother for one year compelling.......you just don't leave the one you love the most for a year and then pick up where you left off....continiuing their elopment would have made more since to me and felt more satisifing. that bugged me...it's like they (animators) didn't have the guts to have them elop and that be the end.....come to think of it i don't think i've ever seen an anime where they elop......i wonder why....... |

The Three Laws of Robotics:
1. A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

Kushieda Minori worked a lot of jobs because she just wanted to make the most of her time. She says so towards the beginning of the show. I didn't think that Minori and Takasu Ryuuji were very well suited in the first place. It's as Kawashima Ami said you can't really have a relationship if one person looks at the other like the sun, they needed to be more equal. Her feelings for him never entered her mind when it came to her future and her goals. I think that the part where Ryuuji tells Aisaka Taiga that he wants her parents blessing and that he will wait as long as it takes actually mattered to Taiga and that's why she went home, knowing that she had his love and support to get her through. I kept waiting for Ami to say something about liking Ryuuji too though, and I like the way she became so important to everyone, which is exactly what she needed (like Kitamura Yuusaku said). |
