There is a recurring motif throughout this movie featuring a famous Grimm Brothers' (albeit with the unhappy Perrault ending) Fairy Tale...

Next:
When he was a young child, our hero was betrothed to his cousin. After many years, the two had lost contact with each other.

His family betrothal half forgotten and unimportant, he takes a girlfriend.

His cousin’s mother dies, under strange circumstances, and his father offers to have their cousin live with them. Even though the hero hasn’t been faithful to his childhood promise of marriage, his cousin still wants him and will do anything to have him, even kill his girlfriend.

/hmm I don’t remember that in Love Hina. I really should re-watch the anime.
