Don't feel bad. I saw Cardcaptors before seeing Card Captor Sakura. At first, I hated it because I thought it was stupid. But I continued watching because I try to give shows a few episodes before I finally decide. I liked it. :) I thought it was beautifully drawn. The story was definitely lacking but it was worth sitting watching the animation. Then I learned about CCS uncut. It was just like when I learned of Sailor Moon uncut or YGO uncut. Once you see those, you can't go back . . . easily.
Can you hear this fangirl squee?!

I saw some anime when I was younger not really knowing it was anime, and most of that I saw on club dorothee (ask Gabriel ;) )

the one I liked the most was Cats Eyes :) but when I look now at the art of it I really don't like it. other ones I liked where the old Nippon shows :)

what really got me into anime is when I first saw a Ghibli film, then started to read and got in touch with the newer anime, so in that aspect I'm rather a newbie :)

Nice topic!

First things I ever saw subbed were Galaxy Express, Captain Harlock, and 1000-year Queen. The local Spanish channel used to lease out their weekends for extra revenue. Saturday morning was Bollywood time, and Saturday and Sunday nights were anime, frenetic quiz shows, music shows, and period dramas.

When Star Trek got conventions rolling, I found my first copied-into-almost-unwatchabilty tapes (of course, in pre-cable days, regular tv reception wasn't much better at times, so who noticed?), without subtitles, many right off Japanese tv. I saw Harmageddon, Vampire Hunter D, and a quirky show called Patarilo. That last is my abiding love, dunno why. Wait a while and I'll have a category for cels from that. It had comedy, farce, bishonen (and -ah - bishonen-on-and-with-bishonen relationships, before the yaoi term was even invented) aplenty.

Anime drifted into the past for quite a while. I drifted back in with CN's shows of Dragonball, and then I saw the usual round of Sailor Moon's, and Yugioh. Then I found a comics/collectibles store that rented anime tapes, and the race was again on! Fushigi Yuugi, Ayashi no Ceres, and more. Funny thing is, that one of my favorites, Weiss Kreuz, wasn't out yet, and I started on that from an import tape they were selling off for $1.

I've got new favorites now. All over the place. Gawl, Saiyuki, HunterxHunter, Gantz, and lots of others. But I still would love to see the whole series of 1000-year-queen, and I still enjoy Galaxy Express. And I keep watching those YJ auctions for the price on the Patarilo boxsets to go down to something I can fit in between the cel splurges -

Well while I still love it, it's no longer my favorite. Samuai Troopers was my first series, and I still enjoy watching it, but there are several other series that I like better...

When I was little, I watched shows like The Little Koala, The Noozles, Mya the Bee, and Maple Town. It's been so long I can't really comment on those.

When I became an "official" anime fan, my first show was Sailor Moon. And although it will always hold a place in my heart, it's NOT by far the best anime I've seen and it's no longer my most favorite. That spot has been taken by Pokemon and a couple of others :)

Guessed I must have missed this thread first time round, or maybe I was avoiding it to mull it over...

First anime- Uylsses 31, He-Man, Thundercats, Transformers, Visionaries, Bravestarr, Mask, Pole Position, Centurions etc. Loved them back then, love them now. However, I'm probably just clinging onto fond childhood memories because the animation and story structure is pretty lame by today's standards ^__^

Akira was my first taste at adult animation and I still love it. There have been several titles that I've embraced over the years amongst the pap I've watched and I'll continue to love these titles.

Now, I only see a few anime each year [omitting adult anime] so that list won't change ^__^

You're going to have to come out with a Favorite Ero anime list one of these days Krafty. I'd be curious to know what it looks like. :D
