Well, I added some more anime and it took my compatibility down a bit . . .

I'm still not sure I've gotten everything down. I went through all the Beta members' lists, trying to add stuff, and felt silly for forgetting some of the anime I've seen. I even own some of the stuff I forgot about . . .

Yeah, some anime I just can't remember if I seen them or not.

After I'm done going through the Anime News Network's Anime Encyclopedia, I think I'll go through my boxes, shelves, stacks and folders of anime I have laying around and dig up more titles. I need something to jog my memory on some of these. I'm also writing down a list of anime that doesn't show up at Myanimelist.

Some titles require investigation. Some anime I've seen, but I can't recall their exact title. For example - I know I've seen two or three City Hunter Movies, but I can only remember one of the titles for sure. My memory is a blur on te other one or two and reading plot summaries doesn't help.

I don't find their anime rating system ideal:

10 - Masterpiece
9 --- Great
8 --- Very Good
7 --- Good
6 --- Fine
5 --- Average
4 --- Bad
3 --- Very Bad
2 --- Horrible
1 --- Unwatchable

For me, most of the anime that I finish watching would either get a 6 or 7 rating.

If I found an anime to be "average", "bad", etc. there's a good chance that I wouldn't have finished watching the series. There are too many other anime I could be watching instead. On the other end, I don't find too many anime that I would give "very good" or better ratings to. That leaves me stuck with using mainly 6's and 7's.

I probably would have gone with something like this:

10 -- Great/Masterpiece
9 --- Very Good/Excellent
8 --- Good
7 --- Decent
6 --- Fine
5 --- Average ***the midpoint***
4 --- Mediocre
3 --- Poor
2 --- Bad
1 --- Very Bad
0 --- Unwatchable

But that's just me being picky. :)

Sorry to double post, but I thought I would comment on this:

I would have preferred in Myanimelist had these Top Ten Lists instead of the lists they're currently using (or in addition to):

1. Most episodes watched

2. Most days spent watching anime
(This is very similar to #1, but I'd still like to know this stat)

3. Most TV series completed
(OVAs, Movies and Specials are a lot easier to complete than TV series)

4. Most "total entries" minus "Plan to Watch series"
(since some people list HUNDREDS of "Plan to Watch" titles)

5. Most Dropped titles as percentage of total number of titles viewed

These stats would be fun to know.

I don't really see that on myanimelist. I know you can add the days yourself but that doesn't work for me. I watch my anime so spread out that it could take weeks, months or years for me to watch something. This is one point that I like anime-planet better. They tally up how long the anime itself is, not how long you claim you took to watch it. Here's my sig from there just to give an example. Notice how the bottom says "my life spent on anime"? That's the tally of what I've claimed I've watched.

Don't get me wrong though! I like both sites. They both have some cool features I like. That's why I'm a member in both places.

Do they include time spent rewatching anime in the total time figure at Anime Planet?

It's too bad that the time spent rewatching anime could not be calculated as a separate statistic apart from the "first time watched" at Myanimelist. It would have been nice knowing who spends a lot of time rewatching anime and who spends very little time rewatching anime. It would have been another another way of recognizing people's differing viewing habits.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From what I can tell there seems to be a somewhat solid "anime barrier" to breach when people reach (as of May 4, 2008):

1500-1550 for "Total Title Entries" minus "Plan to Watch" titles

Yeah I like that I can enter the number of times I've rewatched shows on MyAnimeList. That's not an option on Anime-Planet.

This is my "Anime Hero" http://www.anime-planet.com/users/AnnieMei
I just can't believe all the shows she's seen.

Who has 1500 titles completed? I would subtract everything that isn't complete, not just Want to Watch, because they could easily Drop 1000 titles after 1-2 eps and make their total way higher than it should be.

No, not completed. I'm not trying to figure out completed since there's already a list for completed titles here: :D

http://myanimelist.net/topusers.php

But since I'm always messing around with statistics and trying to look at them from different angles that was one of the ways I was messing with them.

I know I should take the numbers with a grain of salt, but I still find it fun juggling the numbers.

"Completed Anime Series" can be misleading if you've completed a lot of movies and OVAs, but have completed only few TV series (like me). "Overall Total Entries" can be misleading if you've dropped a lot of series and added 2,192 titles to your "Plan to Watch" list (like me for the first part). "Number of episodes watched" can be misleading if you've watched a lot of tiny episode lengths (like me).

I thought "Days of Anime Watched" was the only figure where I knew exactly what I was getting until Redwolf pointed out that Rewatched aime time is counted also. If I counted the twelve times I rewatched Maison Ikkoku it would add 20.6 days to my Days of Anime Watched Total. If I counted the other anime I rewatched it would add more days on top of that.

Ah...no biggie right? :^^:

OH! I see what you're talking about now. Yeah, I've just been ignoring that area. There's no way for me to accurately count how many times I've rewatched an anime and quite frankly, I don't care. I enjoy seeing how many animes I've watched and how much time it takes to watch entire series. That's the fun part for me. The whole rewatching thing is just boosting numbers.

Last night, I had watched a music video that made me want to watch a particular episode. I watched the episode fast forwarding through scenes to get to the "good" parts. I wound up watching 6 episodes this way. How does that count in all these crazy metrics? Don't answer that! I really don't want to know but you see now why I just can't answer those questions. Inuyasha is constantly rerunning on Adult Swim and I'm constantly watching the episodes. Do I catch them all? No, but I see a lot of them over and over again. How is that classified? Again, don't answer. Not worth it. It's just my rant about the whole rewatch thing. :^^:

And Cloud used to be green.
