Oh, what next?

Post by kisara »

Seriously. What do I watch next? Money's getting tight, so I must spend wisely (ahem. . could not spend at all ,but where's the fun in that?!) Any recommendations?

And just so we waste no time here. . .

Have already seen: (deep breath)
Yu-gi-oh! (d'oh)
Inuyasha
Tenchi
Sailormoon
All the Dragonballs
X
Princess Mononoke
Weiss
Mirage of Blaze

In the process of watching:
FMA
Ghost in the Shell
Samurai Shamploo
Ah! My Goddess

Okay. Now. . . recommend away!

Seee. . . and I forget things.

Evangelion and Kenshin. Seen them too.

Fruits Basket - The Sohma family is cursed by the 12 signs of the Chinese zodiac. When they are hugged by a member of the opposite sex, they change into one of the animals. *gestures to avatar & sig*

Fushigi Yuugi - Two girls stumble upon an ancient Chinese book in the national library. Once they start reading it, they are sweep away literally into the pages of the book. They must finish the book to make it back home.

Ayashi No Ceres - On her 16th birthday, Aya Mikage turns into a celestial being bent on revenge of her stolen hagaromo. The worst problem is her twin brother Aki has turned into the guy who stole it many years ago.

There are many other great ones out there too. Good luck in finding one or fifty that you want to watch. :D
Can you hear this fangirl squee?!

genshiken! beck! yakitate!

the first and latter are hilarious for different reasons, the middle is a great storyline amidst a rock background.

Are you telling me you've never seen ANY Ranma 1/2??????? You HAVE to see at least some of it! Rumiko Takahashi, same person who created Inuyasha did Ranma and it's just as cute and funny. A boy martial artist falls into a cursed spring and turns into a girl whenever he gets hit with water. Hot water turns him back into a boy! His dad turns into a panda, he has three fiancees, and much wackiness ensues!

And Nightwalker! Confusing but it has an angsty Vampire private detective! Tokyo Babylon (you saw X but not TB? Shame! :P ) Hmmmm....I know there's more...... Vampire Hunter D! Both of the movies are really good and Bloodlust's character design was done by Yoshitaka Amano.

Oh my god I can't believe I forgot Trigun. Comedic Angst in a wild west/sci fi setting with a super-human pacifistbadasswuss, a bloodthirsty hot as hell priest and two insurance agents bearing weapons. Oooooo and Full Metal Alchemist! I haven't seen much of it since I'm Cartoon Networking that one but it is REALLY cute so far!

Hope that helped you decide!!! :D

You have to see at least the first season of Hunter x Hunter. That's just mandatory, I'm sorry to say. Nobody is allowed to leave the room without at least making the acquaintance of our boy Hisoka.

I have it from the Spouzal Unit (tm) that Last Exile is outstanding. From both of us, recommend Lain (if you like thoughtful weirdness).

Gankutsuo for the fastest 20 minutes you will ever spend on any one episode. Seriously... it takes a bit to get used to the animation style but OMG it is such a good series.

I'm sure Sensei would agree that you ought to see Card Captor Sakura. Given some of the other shows you've watched I'll bet you'd like it, and it is truly right up there among the best ever, in my book.

As usual, great minds think alike. I just finished the one hour "browned and well done" episode of Yakitate Japan. You just wouldn't expect to get that much really good mileage out of bread, would you??

I thought RahXephon was really good! You just have to make sure you watch all the way through the ending credits of the last ep.

Generator Gawl was really nice too!

I don't think anyone's mentioned it, but I liked Soul Hunter. (I dunno, maybe everyone else thought it was terrible... again, I felt the ending justified the series...)

um... guess that's it for now...

You eloquently articulated what i always say about yakitate. How the hell does an anime show about bread baking become so enthralling? kinda surprises me on the same level as hikaru no go. how the hell does an anime about a board game have me gripping my seat? just goes to show you the versatility and the broad spectrum of the medium of anime!
As usual, great minds think alike.

You'd think an English major would have read the Count but I never have. I think that's not a detraction in that I have nothing upon which to base my expectations, so I don't have any reason to be disappointed...in fact, now I want to read the book!

I think Episode 15 is the first time I've ever heard a "wow" out of Kymaera, btw. EVER. It was absolutely stunning.

Uhhhhh...maybe not.... If the truth be known I'm not sure what the hell I am. Probably 1/3 rock golem, 1/3 demon, and 1/3 human. No, wait. That's the wrong story...

*wanders away pondering* Nope, not a communist... nope, not a racial bigot... hmmm. :P

Yes, and it's very good indeed. It's a real feel-good show, highly entertaining with a LOT of clever punning and some extremely funny characters. Some of it is over-the-top funny, and yet it has this sweet little undertone of seriousness that really makes it work... (to say nothing of some of the best voice actors in the business)

I'd say...

Naruto - It's got Gaara in it!!! Gaara!!!! That's reason enough! N-No... Oh... you wanted to know the description... :sweatdrop It has not only action and drama, but also comedy. The seriousness and comedy is evenly balanced, and it can bring you to tears, make you scream for the love of ramen, cheer for Gaara- I mean characters... and love Gaara- I mean Naruto! :sweatdrop

Fruits basket - Like duotrouble said, it's about a family that turns into their animal Jyuunishi(sp?) forms when being hugged by a member of the opposite sex.

Azumanga Daioh - At first glance, although it seems like a normal highschool anime, I can tell you it's much deeper and further than that. it explains exactly what these girls have to go through, and it has great comedic value. It keeps me laughing for hours! XD

Kanon - This is a deep and meaningful anime, about a boy who returns to the area where he used to live before moving away. He recovers many memories and friends from his past. But as he finds out more, he finds it hard to forgive himself for forgetting.

Hope this helps you! :D

Okie. I believe I've made-up my mind. I'm going with Ayashi no Ceres. Why? The bishies, of course!

Thanks, you guys. This list oughta keep me busy a while. :D
