The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

Post by darksuzaku »

Yeah, the title of this series sounds weird, but it's real fun.... those who are watching it probably think the same as do....

however i have finally realized of something very original and shocking about this series and i want to share it with everybody......

The thing is.... the episodes are aired in a complete disarray. At first i thought it was a mistake of the fansub group so i "corrected" the filenames myself.... but when i noticed the same thing on later episodes i realized that it was indeed done on pourpose by the studio.....

.... so the next thing i did was try to place an order that would make sense.... and so i started rewathing the episodes once again.....

..... and by coincidence while watching the ed credits of one of the episodes i arrived to the preview for the next episode and then found the key of the mystery.....

..... on the preview Haruhi (the girl) gives the "real" episode number of the next week while Kyon (they guy) gives the correlative order.....

So.... now that i have seen up to ep 13.....

Ep 01 is really ep ????? still no idea but it's probably ep 11 :P
Ep 02 is really ep 01
Ep 03 is really ep 02
Ep 04 is really ep 07 !!!!!
Ep 05 is really ep 03
Ep 06 is really ep 09 !!!!!
Ep 07 is really ep 08
Ep 08 is really ep 10
Ep 09 is really ep 14 !!!!!
Ep 10 is really ep 04 !!!!!
Ep 11 is really ep 13
Ep 12 is really ep 12 !!!! woah, they got it right :P Great songs on this one
Ep 13 is really ep 05 !!!!
Ep 14 is really ep 06 (not aired yet but look at the previews)

Quite interesting.... It's the first time i have seen this on a series ^_^

Hmm...I hadn't even noticed that. 8O Thanks for explaining that.

The Nightwalker anime was pretty whacked out too. I don't know if it was aired out of order (I doubt it), but the Japanese tape episodes were out of order. I rented the Japanese tapes way back when and the episode order went something like this:

episodes 1,5,2,6,3,7,4,8,9,10,11,12 (or something like that).

I'm not sure if I'm going to finish watching the rest of Suzumiya or not. The new season starts on Thursday, North American time. I kind of liked the beginning part of Suzumiya the best (the first five episodes). I kinda don't want to lose the warm fuzzy feeling I have for at least those episodes by getting disappointed in the rest of it.

Tatsuya Ishihara (the director) did something similar with AIR: you get the story told from the point of view of the travelling stranger, which is very odd with lots of missing plot pieces; then suddenly you're back in samurai times to meet the characters in their previous incarnations and find out what karma their souls incurred, which begins to explain what went on in the first half.

Then you get the entire first story arc retold, as seen by a stray crow with a hurt wing, who's adopted by the main character and is around when the stranger isn't, so he sees more of what's actually going on. (And then the stranger leaves town ... or does he exchange souls with the crow?)

The closest thing I've seen to Faulkner in anime. Even the hot summer atmosphere is right.

I've only seen the first episode so far (so little time ... so many episodes of Mushishi and xxxHolic to watch...) but it's very intriguing. I'll definitely watch the rest.

I loved Air and how they did everything. I even loved the movie and the 2 specials.

It is always confusing in the beginning, but when it is well made and everything wraps up perfectly in the end, I say it's well worth the initial confusion. Plus it is fun to rewatch :D

BTW, I was so excited that the new season of Mushishi started back up. I love this series so much. But the production art is so expensive, I haven't been able to win any of the auctions that I have seen. As for xxxHolic TV, much better than the movie, I just wish ep 12 would be released soon X|

Ah it did?! *cheers* Thanks for the heads-up! :^^:

*cough* Back to topic.. :P
This is the first time I've seen episodes out of order like that, and I admit it's a bit confusing. Sometimes I have to go back to check on little things like
I totally didn't realize Yuki was missing her glasses until they pointed it out. X|

"We exist because she wished us to exist, but she's a normal person with a rational mind, so she doesn't REALLY belive we exist."

Had to watch that like three times before it made sense.
