Inuyasha pinned to the tree

Post by duotrouble »

Okay! I've been wondering for a while about this but everytime I logged into beta I forgot. (I know -- the memory is the first thing to go. X| :hurt: )

Kikyo sealed Inuyasha to the special tree. (Yup! Mind is slipping. I can't remember what the tree was called. X| ) So that means Inuyasha was still sealed to the tree prior to Kagome turning 15, right? So Inuyasha would be buried under a whole bunch of leaves and branches, right? So wouldn't there be some sort of legend about him? OR couldn't Kagome have seen him at some point growing up?

Yeah, you caught me. I was bored and my mind wandered. :)

They do mention a legend about demon sealed in the tree a couple of times ;)

BUT as far as seeing Inuyasha, she GOES BACK IN TIME and unseals him! So he was unsealed WAAAAAY before Kagome turns 15! :P

Ahhhhhhhh paradoxes. :rollin

It's that whole "he's there before she goes back in time to unseal him" thing. I love working my mind around time problems. It fries the mind. :)

I really need to go rewatch Inuyasha from the beginning. I didn't remember them saying anything about a demon being sealed to the tree in Kagome's time. :? Cool! Someone was thinking. :P

But he wasn't there before she went back in time to unseal him, because she went back in time to unseal him! :P

Timeline looks like this:

(so-called "Feudal era" goes from about 1100 to the early 1600s by our calendar and I don't know enough to pin Inuyasha down exactly :P)

approximately 1400-ish - Inuyasha pinned to a tree

That day plus 75 years - Kagome releases him

Skip ahead to 1980-something - Kagome Born

1990/2000-something - Kagome goes back in time and releases Inuyasha

So since Kagome released Inuyasha from the tree in 1475 or so, and she was born in 1980-something, there was never a time that he was pinned to the tree while she was growing up. He only spent 75 years pinned to the tree.

*bows* :P

:crackup Yes, I agree that's true for all the times but the very first time. There's always the first time. :P Because if Kagome wasn't born, how can she go back in time? I'm probably not explaining it as well as my mind is thinking it. It's so complex. It's just like asking about the Terminator. How did Sara Conner have a son the first time when his father wasn't born yet to go back in time to impregnate her?

The Terminator is problematic because the altered timeline caused the beginning. But in Inuyasha's case, the story wasn't circular so I don't have a problem with it.

I think there was a movie called Time Rider where a circular event occurred. I could never figure out a way how that could have actually happened.

Nooooo! See, THAT's the paradox! There never WAS a time that Kagome didn't go back in time! It's an infinite loop! Since it happened in 1400 it ALWAYS happened in 1400, over five hundred years from when she was born. Since Kagome always frees him in 1400, he was never EVER there in the future because she always goes back to a time before she was born to free him. She's altering her own timeline. The time in between doesn't matter because she goes back to a time before to set him free.

It would be different if she were NEVER born, but it doesn't matter if she goes back when she's 15 or 150, she's always going back to the same point in time to free him, thus setting the "future", or the time in between, thus ensuring he is never pinned to the tree in Kagome's present.

I get so confused with this time travel stuff too....

Because that stupid computer sent Kyle back to impregnate her...that was part of the history.

But in Inuyasha it isn't so clear.... like the shard in the Noh mask....was it there before Kagome shattered the jewel that was in her body or how does that fit in that part of the timeline?

I don't remember anyone mentioning the demon sealed on Goshinboku but it could be in the manga - have to go check....

:yay I'm not the only one! :yay

I agree. It's not clear cut in Inuyasha. I don't believe in circular universes. I believe in the straight line to a loop that doesn't connect to the start of the straight line. Look at the numbers 6 and 9 and that's what I mean. That's why I'm imagining Inuyasha being buried under the branches the first time in history. It's fun to hear other theories too cause we all know it's just an anime.

Of course, I love parallel universe theories too. :)

And wasn't it 50 years pinned to the tree? :?

It never really occurred to me that Kagome might see Inuyasha stuck to the tree before she went back in time . . . I guess the fact that she didn't is because by the time she was born, she had already existed in the past. /hmm

Now, I believe in being able to make your own choices, but time travel does seem to strip that away, doesn't it? :P

What always has bugged me, though, is the Noh mask. I mean, they collect the shard in the future . . . but doesn't it still exist in the past, embedded in the tree from which the mask is eventually made? Now, if Naraku and Inuyashatachi were going around, collecting shards, wouldn't they notice that one and remove it? But then the mask would never be evil . . . and Kagome would never encounter it . . . and they would never collect the shard in the future. But in this case, that future is already past.

Sooo . . . did that make any sense? :emb

When I first saw the Noh Mask episode I thought: Ah Ha! /ic Now I know that the Shikon no Tama is never re-assembled in the past. Someone will take that shard and put it into a tree to prevent it being made whole, and this is how Kagome will get to stay with InuYasha! :iluvu

All the shards in Kagome’s possession at that time wind up with Naraku……

But who can say? :shrug

Yeah, that Noh Mask episode can really scramble your brain too. X| :hurt:

Hey, birdie, any word yet if Inuyasha is getting close to an end? Watch it be one of those series that just stops. Or wait! We have to get Inuyasha's sword to transform 5 more times before going after Naraku again. That would be annoying. :x

I WANT MORE INUYASHA ANIME EPISODES!!! :^^:

So far my blog stalking hasn't turned up anything lately. :? The studios are working on different projects right now.

That would be depressing. I was watching last night's episode thinking that anyone who just knows the series from watching it on CN is going to be so-ooo disappointed at the "ending".

On the upside the manga is finally progressing past the sword upgrade story with some actual plot advancement.

I believe Kikyou is really going to die in the next chapter and Sesshoumaru is finally back in the picture with Kohaku in tow. Maybe he'll save Kohaku when his shard is removed?

arrrgh....

I went to one of the scanlation sites to see what happened after the end of the TV series. And they had most of the manga down for "re-translation" and no scanlations.

Does ANYONE have a better source? *beg*

I'm such a klutz at turning up stuff out in the great wild reaches :(
