There are eight other anime currently listed on Moonphase that are dated generic "December" or "2006" dates. The chances of these coming out before the end of the year are low so I won't list them here.

Observations:

The Sept/Oct season (where I listed 51 anime including ?5 children's shows) doesn't quite have as many "new anime" as the April 2006 season list I did (51 including 0 or 1 children's shows I think), but it's close. Out of the 51 anime on this list, only about 6 or 7 are shoujo or josei. The other 44-45 anime are shounen/seinen. That ratio is pretty common from what we've seen of recent seasons.

This upcoming season has a lot of anime with long names. And this season seems to be getting back to showing traditional ren'ai (romantic love) centered game anime instead of the less ren'ai centered games such as murder mystery Higurashi and RPG Utawarerumono we've seen recently.

I didn't have much success picking what anime I might like before last season. The only one I really liked was NHK. Zero no Tsukaima was enjoyable too. I'm hanging in with Innocent Venus, but some of the others I mentioned I really couldn't get into much at all. The tone/pace/mood was completely different from what I was expecting.

The anime I'd say most interests me from what little I can see about them on those websites are:

Kanon (2006) ***

Sasami ~ Mahou Shoujo Club 2nd season **

Asatte no Houkou *
Black Lagoon TSB *
Gift *
Oban Star Racers *
Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru *
Sokou no Strain *
Yoake Mae Yori Ruri Iro na *

Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto
Bartender
Busou Renkin
Death Note
D.Gray-man
Ghost Hunt
Gin-iro no Olynsis
Happiness
Kujibiki Unbalance (2006)
Mamoru-kun ni Megami no Shukufuku wo!
Negima!?
_Summer

This should be a fun season for me. :D

What anime are you most looking forward to seeing from this list?

Four handsome guys get to live in a gorgeous, large mansion for free. There’s only one catch: Turn the land lady’s niece into a “lady”. Soon the boys find out this is no easy task, Sunako, the girl in question, is a gothic, horror movie freak who looks like Sadako from The Ring. The boys now must start the grueling task of turning the gore-loving girl into a “lady”.

Woh! Check out the character's lip designs on the homepage
Whoah, didn't know they were making that into an anime. *sniff* Those lips are detracting from the boys prettiness.

The guys have smaller lips on the manga covers I've seen. Maybe when they're animated their lips will become a little smaller. :)

Yeah! I'm up for Ghost Hunters - it's got good characters and some ongoing mysteries - they're up to book 3 here now.

Yamoto Nadeshiko Shichi Henge - The manga is in the US is titled Wallflower. I'm thrilled - if they do the wild SD effects in the manga's style! It should be a lot of fun. The lips in the pic don't bother me - but oh, the vividness of their hair colors!

Thank you for the list, Keropi.

I'd appreciate any first impressions anyone might have. I'm behind on most of my anime, so I could use some help sorting out this new season. The only ones I'm sure I'll give a try are ones that are sequels or remakes of shows I've liked in the past (like Negima and Jigoku Shoujo). I did give the following a try, though, and here are my thoughts:

D. Gray Man--about a boy, Allen Walker, who is an excorcist & a clergyman of an Akuma extermination group with an anti-Akuma weapon on his hand.

Suffers from first episode syndrome...Long explanations, unintentionally funny moments due to melodrama surrounding characters I feel nothing for and know nothing about. It is visually impressive, has some nice character designs, and is based on a Shounen Jump manga that seems to be popular. There are some comedic moments, which fell a bit flat for me. Judging by the first episode is harsh, esp. when a number of the major characters from the OP are still missing, but this didn't inspire me to follow it.
==========

Pumpkin Scissors--about a military unit devoted to war relief...the actual war had a ceasefire, but conditions are just as bad and many former soldiers turned rebel.

I thought the main character was a bit stupid at first (opposing a tank with a short sword?), but she grew on me--she's not all bark and no bite. The other major character looks interesting...saw enough of his past to intrigue, but not too much as to be drawn out. The comedy blended in a bit better than in D. Gray Man and helped offset the serious moments. I've seen multiple comparisons to Fullmetal Alchemist--I can see it now (military setting, close-knit unit, big, lovable dog), but this is only the first episode. Might be an enjoyable ride; I think I'll watch this one.

Hey...Redwolf! Long time no see! :hello

I suck at describing and reviewing things. That's one reason I couldn't take part in the Open House thing. :(

Random Curiousity has a lot of screencaps of new anime here:
http://randomc.animeblogger.net/

But my personal thoughts on what I've seen are here:

[EDIT]

Everyone's opinions and tastes will vary from mine of course. Copying and pasting:

Ratings:
5.30-5.50 means the anime is a "regular anime watch" in the "regular" range.
5.00 - means it doesn't matter to me if I watch it or not.

Taiyo no Mokushiroku 1-?2 - I skimmed through the first ?two episodes (the only two episodes?) and wasn't interested enough in it to watch them. :) The animation quality was about what I expected after seeing the homepage, but it's just not the type of story that interests me very much. **shrugs**

_summer season.1 (Underbar Summer) (okay/fair - 5.15):
http://sg-tv.jp/
http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,3819 ... ummer.html
No one seems to know if this is going to be one OVA or longer. I watched the first episode and as someone said, "This is nothing different from what we've seen before". I like the character designs. The artwork quality is decent, but I didn't find anything too special about this episode. Mostly it's a light, comedic episode introducing the characters. There was nothing substantial to hook me in. They were going for the comedic rather than the sentimental. It gave me the impression that this is mostly for people that have enjoyed the game (if this is the only episode). A couple of the voice actors suprised me. I wonder if they're who I think they are?

At any rate, not terribly exciting to me. :b

Kiniro no Corda ~Primo Passo~ 1 (okay - 5.32):
http://www.corda-primopasso.com/
http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,3818 ... corda.html
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclo ... hp?id=6859
I liked this show. I know it's based off a shoujo game, but I liked it. The character designs were decent even if most of the designs were used for male characters. This story has a lot of characters that play musical instruments. I like the fact that they SEEM to be playing them more accurately than most anime (I'm not musically inclined). After the ending credits they even had a short Kero-chan-like segment talking about the violin. So believe it or not they may have actually talked to people who play intruments when making of this anime. Woh. Unbelieveable. How many times have I seen anime violinists playing incorrectly?

Minor pet peeve - seeing musical instruments animated or drawn in a poor manner when that could have easily been corrected just by consulting with someone who plays them. I mean...if you're going to draw a violin how can you draw it so inaccurately? Way, way off and the anime character often places the bow on the wrong spot too. :D Even I can tell and I don't play violin. :p

I thought the story was somewhat fun and amusing. The way they built up anticipation is somewhat similar to Hikaru no Go (to a much smaller degree of course). I will continue to watch this. :D

Pumpkin Scissors 1 (okay/fair - 5.15):
http://rikujyo3ka.com/
http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,3741 ... issor.html
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclo ... hp?id=6552
I thought this was alright, but fairly predictable in the first episode.
It fell in that "newcomers arrive in a troubled town and the seemingly harmless guy ends up saving the town and kicking the bad guys butts like a killing machine" category. That's a genre we've seen a lot of times in anime such as Trigun, GunxSword, etc, etc. Nothing too unusual here (yet).
The setting felt like World War II Europe. The animation was done by Gonzo so it certainly LOOKED good. This will probably end up being a decent series, but I doubt the story will appeal to me very much. I did like Shizuka Itou's voice though as Alice though. :)

D.Gray-man 1 (okay/fair - 5.20):
http://www.tv-tokyo.co.jp/anime/dgrayman/
http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,3816 ... y_man.html
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclo ... hp?id=6764
I thought the first episode wasn't bad. Once again though, I don't think the story is going to interest me too much. I'll probably try another episode to see how it goes. You can't get much from just seeing the first episode, but you CAN usually get a good indication of the tone of it. I'm usually not much into supernatural anime unless if it's a bishoujo series. :b

Tokimeki Memorial ~Only Love~ 1 (fair - 5.10):
http://www.konami.jp/visual/tokimemo-anime/
http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,3712 ... emori.html
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclo ... hp?id=6825
This anime is a lot more wacky than I thought it would be. What's up with all those guys chasing after the guy with the nekomimi (cat ears) on his head? I didn't find that funny at all. They also concentrated a lot more on the guy characters rather than the female ones. What's up with that? Is Konami trying to appeal to the female gameplayers of Tokimeki Memorial ~ Girl's Side also? That wouldn't suprise me. That martial arts wielding chick (as in "baby chicken") was just WAY out there. o_O;;

Only that shot of Shiori...I mean Sayuri at the very end was worth the price of admission. I added an extra .05 point just for that scene. :D I don't think I'm going to be liking this series very much. :?

Yuki Makishima voices Sayuri. She was the seiyuu who voiced Miyuki in Sentimental Graffiti/Journey. That was a nice surprise. :)

Ghost Hunt 1 (okay/fair - 5.15):
http://www.tv-tokyo.co.jp/anime/ghosthunt/
http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,3808 ... _hunt.html
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclo ... hp?id=6817
The opening music reminded me of the opening movie music for Harry Potter. :D The animation was decent, but for an opening episode it was very dialog driven. It had very little action in it. Since it was just about all dialog I couldn't help but feel a tad bored with it. But the impression I got from the first episode is that this will be a plot centered anime instead of anime with much action. This being another supernatural series and a shoujo one to boot, I'm not sure if I'm going to have much interest in this series. But I'll see how it goes if I watch another episode.

DEATH NOTE 1 (okay - 5.35):
http://jump.shueisha.co.jp/deathnote/
http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,3755 ... _note.html
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclo ... hp?id=6592
The first episode was interesting. Although the animation looked like everything was in a perpetual gray or brown fog. Maybe that was just the encoding of the video. Anyway...I'm looking forward to the next episode to see where it goes from here.

Marginal Prince ~Gekkeiju no Ohji Tachi~ (fair - 5.00):
http://www.mpri-a.jp/
http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,3851 ... rince.html
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclo ... hp?id=6805
FIRST EPISODE SPOILERS:
I'm not sure exactly what happened here, but it appears this boy started at a new school. He was amazed at how prestiguous the school looked (almost like a palace). He met five other guys there. At least one of them appears to have royalty in his blood. One guy has long pink hair with earrings and acts feminine. At the end of the episode, there appears to have been a misunderstanding because (I think) the boy (Yuuta) found out he was told to go to the wrong place. He's taken outside the gate of the "school" with the five guys standing just inside the gate looking at him.
Overall: This show is too bishounen for me. The first episode had no female characters at all. I'm going to have to pass on this show. :D

Shounen Omyouji (alt spelling: Shounen Onmyouji) (okay/fair - 5.20):
http://seimeinomago.net/web/
http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,3625 ... myoji.html
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclo ... hp?id=6703
I was kind of surprised by this. This was based off a novel. It wasn't excessively detailed, but I liked the WAY they animated it. The dialog between the boy and the animal ?Mokkun was amusing. Excluding the animation quality, the dialog (to me) made the first episode feel more like a movie than a TV series. I guess that's a reflection of the novel's dialog quality. A novel can only rely on written word and not pictures or animation.

FIRST EPISODE SPOILERS:
The first episode was about a boy who is the decendant of a great evil spirit fighter. He meets a talking ?mononoke animal and they fight supernatural creatures together. It appears to take place in the distant past.
Boy...there sure are a lot of supernatural anime out this season. We should call this the "Supernatural Anime Season". :D

Shounen Onmyouji seems like a decent series, but I don't think I'll be able to get into it very much. It seems a bit too much of a...how shall I say this...family oriented series for me (at least from what I saw of the first episode). It's also a shoujo/josei series which means it'll probably have less things in it for me to like. :D

Negima!? (second TV series) (okay - 5.25):
http://www.negima.ne.jp/
http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,3814 ... ima__.html
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclo ... hp?id=6708
I haven't read anything that anyone has said about this series yet. I'll read their comments after I finish writing this. I found this second Negima series pretty strange compared to the first series. A lot of fans of the manga complained about the first TV series because they thought the animation was bland, the action scenes were only "fair" and a lot of good parts were cut out of the anime. There were other complaints, but I believe those were the most common.

The animation of the first episode felt very artsy to me. They used animation moving frames and there were a lot of cut off poses and strange far away shots. I don't think the girl's are necessarily animated/drawn any better - just differently. In some ways, they actually don't look as well-drawn as the first series, but character art style is a matter of personal taste. I'm sure others will like their new designs a lot better.

I thought the animation of the action scenes looked much better than the first series. The action scenes looked a lot more dangerous and suspenseful in comparison. The pacing felt kind of slow though. Maybe the pacing is slower because this series is emphasizing the non-comedy aspects more. Only a couple of the jokes felt funny to me and maybe it was due to that.

Busou Renkin ("Weapon Alchemist") (okay/fair - 5.20):

The manga was done by Nobuhiro Watsuki who created the Rurouni Kenshin manga. It felt very retro, like an anime from the mid-1990's. I can't say I thought this was great or anything, but at least it had a couple female characters in it. :D

Tokiko sort of reminds me of Yayoi from Sadamitsu and Ai from Mahou Shoujo Ai. They all have that short black hair, black on their clothes, similiar calm, stand-offish personality (Tokiko seems much less loner-ish though). Also their eye colors are noticeable while they're fighting. It looks kind of cool.

Anyway...like I said, I didn't find anything particularly noteworthy about it, but I'll probably watch it for now anyway. :b The main guy's voice actor is by the same person who did Keita in Inukami. He's a bit of a comedic character so it fits.

Kanon (2006) 1 (okay/decent - 5.45):

I was pretty satisfied with this episode. It worked out decently I thought. The animation was nice and they showed a lot of scenes that were not in the first series. From what I can tell from seeing it without subtitles, Yuuichi is a bit more of a wiseguy in this series compared to the first series, but he's still not coming off with that somewhat bitter mean streak that he had in the game. I wasn't expecting him to be as bitter as he was in the game though.

I see they included a lot of foreshadowing which was something I really loved about the first series. I hope they don't overdo it though. I wonder if what they showed in the first episode was the way it happened in the game? I have a feeling it was. I hope they handle it right. I thought they did a good job of not repeating the same scenes from the first anime. The only scenes they repeated were the scenes they HAD to show. Even the repeated scenes were done DIFFERENTLY from the first anime. Yuuichi's introduction to Nayuki was a bit more wiseass than the first series.

They included some nice touches (things you wouldn't know if this was your first time viewing it). One character we haven't met yet walked in the background. The town they live in now looks like a dynamic real town instead of the static background of the first anime.

I don't expect this anime to get real interesting until the second half. When I first watched the first Kanon anime, the first half wasn't very interesting to me. I expect that with this series too. But even seeing foreshadowing scenes from this series makes me feel sad. ;_;

Can't wait for the sub to find out exactly what they were saying. :D

Those twins are pretty sick. :puzzled I haven't felt slightly queasy watching anime since I watched that disgusting adult anime title some months ago. :D At any rate...the dialog remains sharp and witty and the suspense level is still there. This should be an enjoyable action series for me.

Sasami Mahou Shoujo Club Season 2 ep. 1 (okay - 5.35):
http://www.vap.co.jp/sasami-club/
http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,3839 ... aho_s.html
I didn't find this episode too exciting, but it WAS basically a setup for the second season's story. The children seiyuu's voices remain cute and I got a few laughs from the stuff their characters were doing. The background music remains above average.

Yoake Mae Yori Ruri Iro na ~Crescent Love~ 1 (okay - 5.30):

I found this somewhat amusing and funny. The first episode stood out a little from other ren'ai game openings, but not by very much. I'll watch some more to see how it goes.

Mamoru-kun ni Megami no Shukufuku wo! 1 (okay - 5.35):
http://www.megadere.com/

Wow...I didn't expect the main guy to look so much like a little kid. But I guess that's the point eh? I thought the permise was a little strange, but I got a number of laughs out of it. I could watch this anime just for Ayako's facial expressions alone. :D

I thought the switches between seriousness and comedy worked alright. I will be watching this for now.

Ayu Mayu Gekijou I can't find. :(
Galaxy Ange-loon doesn't look like my kind of thing.
Love Doll~Lovely Idol~ - I'm not into idol contests.
Yamato Nadesico Shichi Henge - in the very least I'll wait for the English subtitle.
Red Garden might be interesting, but I'm putting it off for now. I'm not sure if I'm going to like that Neighborhood Story "big lips" art style.
Super Robot Taisen OG Divine Wars TV series - I haven't watched yet.
Galaxy Railways ~The Eternal Junction~ - is not my kind of thing.
Souten no Ken ("Fist of the Blue Sky") - is also not my thing.
009-1 - haven't seen yet.
CODE Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion - haven't seen yet.
Gin-iro no Olynsis - haven't seen yet.
Happiness! - haven't seen yet.
Asatte no Houkou - haven't seen yet.
Sumomo mo Momo mo~Chijou Saikyou no Yome~ - haven't got yet.
Gift ~Eternal Rainbow~ - haven't seen yet.

You see how far behind I am? :bawl

I'm off work Saturday so maybe I'll be able to catch up a little then (in between college football games).

Hey...Redwolf! Long time no see!
Yup, partially related to long time, no buy. I hardly found anything interesting on auction over the summer. :(

Your descriptions look just fine to me. :) I think I'll test out Death Note, but I'm probably going to wait at least a few episodes before deciding on most of the shows this season... Glad to hear that the new Kanon is enjoyable, but I hope the Negima comes together nicely as the season continues.

I'm good with calling this the Supernatural Anime Season...perfect timing for it anyways...

Judging from the first episode, we are probably in for some cool fight scenes. The artsy direction style should make the supernatural parts feel much more eerie than the first TV series.

We'll see.

Well, that will help sate some of my appetite. The fight scenes in the first series were not well done for the most part. :(
===========

Kanon: My thoughts, in order: Wow, Shiny! It's Kyon (Sugita Tomokazu)! Wow, Nostalgia!

Intro meeting scene was too fast. One moment of Yuuichi on the bench, and bam! Nayuki was already there. However, everything else was the good kind of fluffy. Seeing all of the characters was nice, and the Ayu scenes were just about perfect. In the original, I felt some areas of the storyline were rushed, and I never really cared for some of the characters, most notably Nayuki and Yuuichi. It's too soon to tell for sure, but I like the changes I've seen to their characters thus far as well as the longer episode span of this series. I can't wait to see how they handle Mai and Makoto.

Galaxy Ange-lune/rune: Five more girls, a floating cat head, a little doll/toy with a moustache and a deep voice, and a lot of strangeness.

I've heard rumors that this show might have an actual storyline. I need to give the subs a watch, but overall, this didn't seem very memorable: a lot of moments seemed cliche or forced. It's also always going to live under a shadow. Granted, GA had its share of misses, but the characters were irreplaceable. And in the end...floating cat head...or Normad? Floating cat head...Normad. The answer is clear. I'm going to let some episodes pass and see what people are saying then.

I was also distracted by Lily's voice, which I could not place...(Nakayama Erina, Freesia/Felicia in Jubei-chan 2...which also has Horie Yui aka Ayu from Kanon :D ).

You know, I was thinking the same thing. I wonder if they rushed through that scene because there was a similar scene in the first series and they didn't want to dwell on it.
redwolf wrote: I can't wait to see how they handle Mai and Makoto.
In the very least from what they've shown in previews so far, we can see that they're probably going to extend Mai's and Makoto's story endings. The extensions should make their stories more dramatic. If their stories are getting extended than there's a good chance the other girl's stories will get extended as well. I just hope they show some of Shiori's story because you didn't get to see any of it during the first series.

I tried to watch these anime, but I didn't have much luck finding shows I liked compared to last time:

Super Robot Taisen OG Divine Wars TV series 1 (fair - 5.10):
http://www.suparobo-anime.jp/
http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,3793 ... t_tai.html
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclo ... hp?id=6535
This anime felt very much like an old giant robot anime from the 1970's. The opening song was a Robot anime fight song. :D The first episode had a very typical mecha anime beginning. Newbie guy gets into a mech and blah blah blah. The animation isn't bad. I almost expected to see someone with long sideburns, but I'm not really into Old School Robot anime.

Asatte no Houkou 1 (okay - 5.35):
http://www.tbs.co.jp/asatteno/
http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,3740 ... _hoko.html
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclo ... hp?id=6547
I thought this turned out alright. I liked the laid back, mellow mood. Even though the premise is pretty "set-up" I've always been a sucker for these kinds of stories. So I will continue to watch this.

Geez...how much older is that boy compared to Karada? o_O;;

At least Karada's a lot older than she looks because I think she's about ready to begin Middle School. :? I think they drew her that way to emphasize age differences.

Happiness! 1 (okay/fair - 5.20):
http://www.happiness-anime.com/
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclo ... hp?id=6800
Woh...another anime with a female lead named Haruhi. I liked the first five minutes, but the rest of it kinda bored me. I yawned and sighed several times watching it and I'm not THAT sleepy. Haruhi's seiyuu sounds familiar and I'm wondering if she's changed her name again.

The first episode just felt too conventional for me. It didn't feel very special and it wasn't very exciting. I liked the fact that at least two of the characters know how to use magic and carry magic staffs, but I'd like to have other reasons to like this. :p Hopefully I'll like it more later.

Gin-iro no Olynsis 1 (so-so/mediocre - 4.60):
http://www.toei-anim.co.jp/tv/olynssis/
http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,3835 ... _olyn.html
I thought I might like this, but I didn't. Even though this is based off a novel, it felt very much like early 1980's anime. You have your small simplified mechs that people ride in and your futuristic desert settings. I didn't find the main girl very interesting at all. Unfortunately the anime just bored me. I'm going to have to pass on this series.

Sumomo mo Momo mo~Chijou Saikyou no Yome~ 1 (okay - 5.25):
http://www.tv-sumomo.com/
http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,3744 ... momo_.html
I'm usually not into anime where an inescapable, annoying girl latches onto the main guy and never lets go, but they went so over-the-top with some of the jokes (many of them being loli jokes, **a heads up to those of you who avoid those**) that I couldn't help but laugh sometimes. I'll see how it goes. It all depends on how funny I find the jokes. I might drop this shortly or I might not.

Gift ~Eternal Rainbow~ 1 (okay/fair - 5.20):
http://www.gift-er.com/
http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,3731 ... al_ra.html
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclo ... hp?id=6824
"Gift" is similar in many ways to Da Capo. Kirino looks very much like Nemu (Da Capo), Gift and Da Capo's uniforms appear similar, a magic landmark is in the plot and the pacing feels the same. Some of the same staff worked on both that's why. I wasn't blown away by it, but I'll try to watch the whole thing.

Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru 1 (okay - 5.25):
http://www.starchild.co.jp/special/otome/
http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,3526 ... oku_n.html
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclo ... hp?id=6619
I thought this was "okay". The artwork of the characters often resembled Da Capo's and Canvas 2's. The main guy has to attend a girl's school according to his grandfather's will. We'll be getting shoujo ai and fanservice from this. I think the female characters will be frequently grabbing each other (or at least, grabbing the guy) judging from the first episode. :?

If I had to compare this anything I would say it's a little like a cross between the plots of "I, My Me Strawberry Eggs" and "Strawberry Panic". The pacing and the jokes are more similar to the former though. I will watch this for now.

Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto 1 (okay/fair - 5.20):
http://www.irohanihoheto.jp/
http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,3786 ... kikan.html
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclo ... hp?id=6819
They appear to have set this at the end of the Edo Era. They added some supernatural stuff for good measure. The historical things the animators drew in the settings helped contribute to the proper period feel of this anime. This turned out better than I thought from what I seen of the promo. Unfortunately the characters and the story don't interest me very much. I'll leave this show for the people who enjoy these types of anime.

Kujibiki Unbalance TV series 1 (fair - 5.05):
http://www.kujian.info/
http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,3761 ... nbala.html
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclo ... hp?id=6604
Not having seen any of the earlier OVA, I didn't know what to expect from this. I didn't get into this much at all and I didn't find it very funny. I'm not sure if I will watch any more of it.

I skimmed through "009-1" and it does indeed appear to be based off that old anime/manga ?forgot the title. The character designs are very 1960's/early 1970's Old School. I think fans of those old anime secret agent/action character/secret organizational stuff might like it, but it's not something I'm into.

I skimmed through "CODE GEASS ~Lelouch of the Rebellion 1" and it's not something I'm going to watch.

Katekyo Hitman REBORN! - I don't have yet.

Tenpo Ibun Ayakashi Akashi - I'm not sure if I'm going to watch. It doesn't seem like my kind of thing.

Jigoku Shoujo ~ Futagomori - The format of the first episode is similar to the format of the early episodes of the first series.

Shijou Saikyou no Deshi Kenichi - I don't have yet.

Fortunately there are only five or six new anime series left after these because on Sunday we begin all over again with SECOND episodes of the new season. :coffee:

You know, I was thinking the same thing. I wonder if they rushed through that scene because there was a similar scene in the first series and they didn't want to dwell on it.
That would be poor thinking on their part...this show is going to get more viewers than the previous one, and all of the newcomers will have never seen the first Kanon or have played the game. Oh well, it's not that big, just jarring.
I hope so! Mai and Makoto were my favorites, and the fact that I can barely remember Shiori proves what a disservice she received.

More first episode impressions:

Negima!?
Whoa. I got Utena vibes. I never thought I'd be talking about Utena in relation to Negima. However, with this large eccentric cast (Zazie juggling, Mana cleaning her gun in class?), it works. Ayaka even got some [non-spinning] roses. Given the artistic style of the show, I wish they had avoided 3D altogether. It wasn't too bad; it just seemed out of place.

Characterization looks good so far. The little Baka Ranger snippet at the end was kind of fun...I wonder if that will be a running gag (separate from the show, I mean)? I didn't have high hopes going in, but I do now, coming out of this episode.
=====

Death Note
I went in knowing nothing. Talk about a first episode hook! Very interesting show concept. They used the soundtrack to great effect, especially in the scene where the main character was frantically writing in the book. I hope this show lives up to this first episode. ANN says this has 37 episodes; seems like an odd number if it is true. Longer shows always worry me because the likelihood of me maintaining interest is inversely proportional to the length of a series. :P
=====

I wasn't feeling too excited about the new season, but with these two shows and Kanon, I'm gonna have to change my mind.

Reading up on some first impression blogs, I think I am going to give Asatte no Houkou a try.

I liked Sayuri and Mai. I used to like Nayuki, but after seeing a lot of osananajimi (childhood friend) gaming characters, Nayuki doesn't seem so memorable any more. I like Itsuki from Suika and Mizuka from ONE 2nd OVA as osananajimi much more. :^^:

I take back what I said earlier about what I think of Negima!?'s artwork. After watching a clearer, wide-screen, improved color version of episode 1, I like the artwork two steps better than I did before. Someone said that the director (or was it the art director?) is in love with stain glass window shots in the anime they've done.

The two parts I laughed at were:
the Baka Rangers scene and the part she was cleaning her weapon. :D
redwolf wrote: Reading up on some first impression blogs, I think I am going to give Asatte no Houkou a try.
I was looking forward to that one. It's a bit out of season though since it's a "summer anime" story that airs during the Fall.

Katekyo Hitman REBORN! 1 (mediocre - 4.40):
http://www.j-reborn.com/
http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,3842 ... tman_.html
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclo ... hp?id=6843
FIRST EPISODE SPOILERS:
I didn't get into this at all. It's about a one foot tall boy with a hat that shoots another boy with a gun. After the second boy is shot his clothes bust off and he becomes a hot-blooded guy in his underwear. This flame appears on guys forehead and he goes bonkers doing something with complete energy and gusto like he's possessed.
I didn't enjoy this at all and needless to say, I won't be watching it. :b

Tenpo Ibun Ayakashi Akashi 1 (okay - 5.30):
http://www.ayakashiayashi.com/
http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,3796 ... _ayak.html
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclo ... hp?id=6730
After looking at the homepage of the anime, I didn't expect to like this very much, but it turned out to be a surprise. Like "Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto", this anime takes place during the time of the Samurai. Apparently a group of disparate characters will get together to fight monsters that are appearing in Japan. This could get interesting. I thought the first episode was decently done and held my interest despite the somewhat slow pace. I will watch this series for now. :)

Shijou Saikyou no Deshi Kenichi 1 (so-so - 4.70):
http://websunday.net/rensai/kenichi.html
http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,3815 ... yo_no.html
I didn't like this very much.
The story is about a boy who gets picked on a lot. After he meets a new transfer student he decides he wants to become stronger. A lot of the comedy in the first episode came from him becoming scared and crying out due to the various crazy situations he was in. It was kind of annoying.
To summarize, I don't find the humor funny or the story interesting so I won't be watching this. :(

On another note...I'm glad someone decided to English fansub the first episode of Sasami ~ Mahou Shoujo Club. I wasn't much into the series until episode seven, but I liked it. It's actually more "Slice-of-Life" than "Mahou Shoujo". I stuck with it so long because I wanted to hear how the young seiyuu sounded. You know...twelve to ?seventeen year olds voicing children's parts. 8O

Here's that Sasami commercial You Tube link again of the seiyuu singing:
