Why do I continue to do this?

Post by Baylor »

As many people can attest to, I was a HUGE (drooling) fan of Bleach. I faithfully downloaded and watched every episode every week it came out. Then I started downloading the manga. I could not get enough of this show, which was perfect for me since Naruto had headed down the dark path of filler and therefore I had plenty of viewing time.

Then the filler of Bleach happened. I admit, I did not give it half the chance I gave the Naruto filler. I gave it two episodes before I said no thanks, and continued to read the Bleach manga. But when I finally caught up in the manga to the end of the shinigami arc and the start of the arrancar arc... I was just as disappointed. I continued to read, hoping for it to get better, but I continued to hate it.

Here's the sad thing... I still download and read the manga. I still hate it. I always make comments that Bleach should have ended for good when
Ichigo went home and left Rukia in Soul Society.
Fade to black... the end.

I need to quit Bleach. I shouldn't keep torturing myself with something I don't like. And yet I do. Is it some sick form of nostalgia, a sicker need to see things through to the end, or am I just nuts?

Keep your insulting opinions to yourself, DT.

I know how you feel. I used to follow bleach weekly then when it hit the fillers I just automatically lost interest. My suggestion is to find a show that really interests you and start watching it. Before you know it you will have long past forgotten about bleach and maybe when you remember again the fillers are finished.

Go download One Piece fansubs. You won't be disapointed. Currently up to episode 289 of pure gold.

I haven't read the manga just watched the anime but I wonder why I continue to watch....

The filler arc went south for me when Ishida wound up in the Hospital, I think that's about the time they fired the writers. :x Now I continue to watch even though they've now fired all the animators and hired chimps. Honestly the quality of the animation totally blows. :moon

Why do we keep dl-ing, watching and reading? Hope. We can always hope that the series we loved so much can be resurrected.

*nervous laugh* Oh, you all are so not helping me get around to watching said filler.

Oh yeah, episode 63 was the end for me. I have had one heck of a time trying to watch anything else beyond that. I made it through 64 and 65, but it's like pulling teeth. My own teeth. Unaided.
And yeah, the gengas for everything after 63 just really look.... sad. I won't spend my money on them.

Now, don't get me wrong, I still love those first 63 episodes.... well,... you know aside from the "beat the bad guy this week" Soul Society arc... <.<
And I have a list as long as my arm as to what genga sets I still want to get from Midori! I just won't be wasting my time with the later sets. *sigh*

Hopefully, something else really nice will come along. Eventually.
But, I have to admit, I'll probably still be stuck in my Ichigo world, and won't care a whole heckuva lot.
Obsessions are strange that way. :P

I love being the odd man out. :P

The fillers were terrible in the beginning - I admit -
but I don't think they are all that bad right now. I
think the fighting got better, and actually, the storyline
was interesting to me. The writing isn't as good, but
I have seen worse.

Well, it's not really about how much I don't like the show now. That's a given. I know plenty of others disagree with me. It's more of a wondering why I keep watching something I don't like. If you like it, great... I just don't know why I keep watching it.

I finally got around to deleting Samurai 7 off my hard drive. I watched 21 episodes, disliked all 21, but kept the final five for when I finished it someday. It's been over a year, and I still haven't watched them. I finally decided to let them go... I never liked them in the first place, so why do I care to finish it... and deleted them.

Hopefully I'll get to that point with Bleach, and focus on other shows. And you're right, EoP. I should get back to One Piece. I left off back at episode 150something and I should just get back to that since I do like that one so much. :D

But in case you're curious why I initially became disappointed in Bleach, here you go. Ye be warned that it's a spoiler for those who do not read the manga.
When you find out that Ichigo's father is an exiled shinigami like Urahara, it just killed it for me. I can't even explain why, but I was just incredibly disappointed. I think I even yelled "WEAK!" out loud when I read it.

I wonder if they're going to have to do like Naruto and relaunch it with a new
name to get rid of the stigma of the fillers.

I'm thinking I just downloaded ep. 107 this morning.

I know I'm bizarre, but I thought the last, oh maybe six or eight eps have been really kind of interesting... in a masochistic sort of way. They were so INCREDIBLY BAD for awhile that it's been intriguing to watch the writers pull all of this crap together into something that resembles a coherent story.

We're apparently sneaking up on the thrilling conclusion of the Bounto business... at least it seems as though we are...

But if you guys aren't even liking the actual manga past the Soul Society arc, I'm thinking it may be doomed. :(

HEY! :nya: I'm doing my civic duty this week so you're going to pick on me? :puzzled So okay, really I'm being forced into submission so I won't be arrested but you know.

Anyway, I don't know, to answer your question. I think we all get like that sometimes. You really loved Bleach so you want it to be good again for you. I'll admit I only started watching Bleach because so many of my friends liked it. After many warnings of "don't watch after episode 63", I pressed on. I'm enjoying the so called fillers more because I never really loved Bleach. I just enjoyed it. So to me as long as my Ishida eyecandy is there, I'm one happy little fangirl. :emb

I attempted to watch 12 Kingdoms and Eva for the same reason. So many people I knew loved these shows. But I was completely bored with both. I pressed on "torturing" myself to watch just one more episode. I mean, it's got to get better, right? And finally I took the plunge like you did with Samurai 7 and just purged those two shows off my drive realizing they are just not for me.

I think it's just more a need to hope for the better than an actual enjoying punishing yourself. :)
Can you hear this fangirl squee?!
