Best 100 Anime Characters

The Feb issue of Animage had the results of a reader survey on the best 100
anime characters and the results are below.

Personally, I disagree with most of them, but thought I'd throw it out for
discussion.

They just announced the license two days ago and it's scheduled for a
release this spring, oh most impatient one

I can actually see Rozen maiden being picked up for Cartoon network! Maybe edit out a little bit of bad words and violence.

Yeah, does anyone know who that dude is?

I don't really like anyone on that list and I haven't even seen most of those anime (only familiar with them but haven't seen them). I agree with Black Jack and Belldandy being there. The rest? No clue. I'm just not into modern anime and this list proves how out of the loop I've become.

I trust this list isn't supposed to be the "top 100 anime characters of all time," right? Because if so, it's sorely lacking. I'm guessing this is just a poll for the most popular characters, since those are all fairly current shows. Black Jack's newest series is quite good in fact.

Wrong. Juuuust wrong.

Well, ok I agree with a few of them as being maybe in the top 100 but where's, for example, Vash? or anyone from Cowboy Bebop? or Kenshin? or Dilandau?

unless they're talking about the 100 best of the last 2-3 years. Maybe it's just short term memory.

And where's... Lucy? or anyone from Blood+ ?

Gundam Seed kicked butt with #s 2, 3, 8, 11 and quite a few others sprinkled liberally throughout the rest of the list. I do recognize quite a few of the other characters, only because I've seen them in many fabulous Beta galleries and threads. But, who is the #1 guy? (All those squares are very tiny on my laptop screen!

) I also laughed at the one real guy. Since some real-live-people shows often throw in a bit of animation for a different effect, perhaps some anime used a walk-on real live guy just to be different! (I know Spongebob does this quite often.)

It's hard for me to recognize a lot of the characters. The Japanese is so small that I barely recognize any of it. Who is:

I can't tell who they are. ?^_^?

If this were a Top 100 Most Interesting Anime Characters list I'd have to presonally disagree with a lot of the picks. But since it seems to have boiled down to basically being a "Favorite Anime Characters That Have Appeared Recently" list (in other words a popularity contest) I can understand why a lot of these characters ended up being chosen.

I think only one of my all-time favorite characters made that list (Suigintou).

The (recently appearing) characters I like the most on that list are:

Suigintou, Rena, Yuki (Suzumiya), Haruhi (Suzumiya), Saber (Fate/stay night), Yakumo (School Rumble), L, Sara (Soukou no Strain) and the Ouran characters.
