Hi! Just finished Mai Hime! Few questions and Directors cut

Post by RoboFlonne »

Hi! Just finished Mai Hime! I have a Few questions and there's a Directors cut on youtube that is different from the regular ending. I have to say I like the directors cut!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZZkRkHYaPo

Also was wondering if Shiho is really Tates sister, and Reito is really Mikoto's brother? /hmm /hmm

p.s. If you want to see that directors cut you should see it soon, since this scene will probably be removed by bandai soon.

So how does the regular ending differ from the directors cut?

It's been so long since I seen it, but I believe it was the directors cut that I originally seen because I can't recall anything I haven't seen in that clip.

Sorry it's been too long since I seen Mai Hime to be able to answer your questions. X|

It was good seeing Afro-sensei again. :D

EDIT:

After meandering around You Tube, I must say I really like this Mai HiME AMV:

MASSIVE SPOILERS FOR THE ANIME:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPUYASZTtrA

It emphasizes what I liked the most about the anime anger, betrayal and loss especially in the context of romantic relationships. Heh...fun. Bwa-Haa-Haa!! :evilblk :kaioken

I love Afro Sensei! But I don't remember what he teaches! I don't even think he teaches... He must be the lawncare teacher! /heh

The cut version takes out everything after mai sings and before Nagi and the little girl says goodbye to fumi !

That's a great AMV! Thanks for posting that Keropi!

As with the jealousy and hatred, etc. It's all part of love. And Love wouldn't be special without it. :vict

Really love will save the world!

And Miyu... Miyu will save the world. Miyu's the only one who's love never wavered! Go Miyu! :vict

Did you notice Arika running in the background at the end of the final Mai HiME episode?

That AMV almost makes me wish I collected from the show. I wonder if anything from those scenes have ever showed up?

I need more angry/violent female artwork. lol :D

RedWolf has alot of the angry violent women sketches! Notably Platinum Miyu and Angry Mikoto!

Redwolf and I was just talking about how I liked the happy ending. And if they didn't bring anyone back I probably wouldn't have liked it. Redwolf said it wasn't evangelion. /heh

If Mikoto kills Reito and If they brought tate back with Mai's wish, then left everyone else dead. It would have been an evangelion ending! :vict

I didn't think of it that way... Great insight Redwolf!

I would say that the director's cut is just some extra scenes for the fans to enjoy...just extras in addition to the regular ending.

Other than the few I have, the only other "huge scenes" I remember seeing were
Duran shooting Kiyohime and Natsuki and Shizuru as they turned to green dust (same set)
I passed on it because a lot of people really love the scene, but I can't quite say the same. I only regret it when I wonder what else was in the set. The only childs I've seen have been Duran, Kiyohime and Akira's child (Gennai)...unless there were some hidden in the unscanned/unphotographed Manadake or YJ sketches.

There's so many cool sketches I haven't seen the slightest hint of, and since it has been so long since the anime aired, they are probably lost, destroyed or locked up in a vault. I'd love for some Kagutsuchi or some Nao (~2:30 from that AMV would be great :D) to appear... I passed up some Otome Nao hoping for some HiME Nao, but about the only sketch that came was of the back of her head. :dsad

It's too bad they're apparently not available. :(

For me...Mai HiME is an anime where I like the scenes more than the individual characters. For anime where I like the characters more than the scenes, I am less picky about what I might want to try to get. But "scenes" are harder to collect compared to "characters". :(

I felt the opposite about Strawberry Panic. For Strawberry Panic, I liked some characters a LOT more than nearly all the scenes they were in. :shrug

Ideally though I'd prefer to collect from an anime where I like characters, scenes and story.

I am not certain if everyone agrees with you. OK I will do it for you.

Check out this AMV created from the Mai HiME PS/2 game using the Baldr Force I've Sound Opening song:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8qMA6AF ... ed&search=

You can see how completely different the character designs from the game are from the anime. 8O

It looks like the characters got loli-fied. lol :D

Haha, yes, I prefer the anime version for the most part...except the opening image of Shizuru is pretty sweet.

The director's cut was a few extra scenes included on DVd 9 of the R2 release...basically an extended version of episode 26.

I like all of those about HiME to varying extents, but I didn't get to know many of the characters as much as I would have liked due to the size of the cast and the focus on the plot. I think what really sold it for me were the music, the action and suspense scenes, and the humor.

It's a bit of an odd series, because my opinions about HiME sometimes blur with my opinions about Otome even though they should be separate (Otome increased and decreased my like of certain characters).
I felt the opposite about Strawberry Panic. For Strawberry Panic, I liked some characters a LOT more than nearly all the scenes they were in.
That about sums the show up. It probably would have been just as enjoyable without an overarching plot. A few romantic episodes, a couple play episodes, a couple detective episodes, the Etoile selection, etc, etc. Maybe they could replace anime Amane with manga Amane and throw out some of those scenes at the end.
