I love some OPs and EDs for their graphics and music so I'll watch them all the way through: Yu Yu Hakusho, Fushigi Yuugi, Kamisama Kazouku, Kiba. Bokura Ga Ita had a different ending each time to match the mood of that particular episode so I liked to watch that. Some shows, like Card Captor Sakura's first OP, you can't get that song out of your head no matter what you do. :wow:

The only show I couldn't stand the OP at all was Basara. :tongue I couldn't fastforward fast enough.

I tend to watch them for the most part, there is the occasional song I can't stand (still trying to forget Full moon wo sagashite's "Rock n' Roll Princess  ). Of course I watch them partly because it gives me time to get situated on my couch or start some popcorn X| , but there are a few Opening/Closing's that I watch just to hear a favorite song, or just oggle a favorite character. Strangely enough my favorite Opening comes from DN Angel (I have "True Light", on both my Mp3 and computer and listen to it every chance I get, and my favorite Closing is the first from Sorceror Stabber Orphen.

Years ago back when everything was on video tape (or laserdisc) I used to watch openings and closings more. But these days it's much easier to skip OPs/CLs and I have less patience to view them.

The first time I watch an anime I usually try to go through the OPs and CLs, but after a little while (15-30 seconds) if I don't like what I'm hearing I'll usually just skip it. I'm more likely to watch OPs and CLs if I like the song, the OP animation, the characters shown or the blend of animation/song together. The OPs and CLs I like the most tend to add a little spirit or atmosphere to my anime viewing experience. :)

I find the second Death Note OP and CL a ball to watch. The Black Lagoon, Higurashi and AIR TV openings I watched through every single episode. The Keitai Shoujo's OP and CL I found very catchy and watched those every time also. I watched through the Hitohira OP because I liked that different style mellow song and thought it set the right mood for the anime (even though I stopped watching it after five episodes :( ).

Then there are some anime OP or CLs I watch through several times and then decide to start skipping such as Kanon's (2006) OP and NHK's first CL.

But overall I tend to skip about 85-90 percent of the OPs/CLs I run across now.

I usually watch the OP/ED for the first two and last two episodes. If it's just the song I like (Super GALS ED) or the song/animation combo (Escaflowne OP), I'll watch it 90% of the time. Otherwise I just get lazy and zip on through them though. It's a time saver. :P I've decided I don't like Haru Toki's OP (current anime viewing), so I skip it.

Some of my favs are KKM's 2nd ED, Fushigi Yuugi's OP (okay, partially to see my cels), various Inu Yasha OP/EDs, the Paradise Kiss OP, Meine Liebe's ED, and Hellsing's OP. Yup, I was just updating my ipod, so it's fairly fresh in my head. :emb

I was about to say, an OP is worth to watch if you have cels from it. XD *guilty* Though really, if I like the song and animation, I'll always watch the OP. I tend to skip the EDs a lot more often.

I generally watch them at least once through, and then only watch my favorites from then on.

Since I'm not the most musically inclined person out there, the animation matters more than the music. So, if the animation's nice, or funny, or characteristic, or whatever, I tend to watch the OP/ED more.

I can't stand the current Bleach opening. I mean, it looks like Kon is singing it, and the hellish filler stuffies are on back-up. Take that one sequence in the beginning out, and I might actually like the opening.

I always watch them at least once. Like everyone else it depends on the song. I love the OP song to the lodoss TV series and watched the intro everytime (looking at the gorgeous artwork didn't hurt either) same thing with the song for last exile. Generally speaking I'm not as fond of Endings. The only one I can think of that I like is the groovy ending in CCS, it's such a cute and catchy song.

Though usually when I'm watching something I let OP & endings play because it gives me a good excuse to get up and do other things for a few minutes between episodes.

It depends for me, as well. Of course with viewing new titles, I'll watch both OP and ED themes all the way through several times, to get a feel for everything and decide whether or not I like the songs and animation. Afterwards, the deciding factors are:

(1) If I like the song. I'm a big music freak, especially when it comes to pairing music with movies. So if the vocal has a good voice and the music is something to my tastes, I'll watch it every time. I never like the "kiddy" songs, the annoyingly upbeat songs with super-fast vocals that are pitched too high.

(2) How much time I have, or similar variables. Sometimes I'll squeeze an episode or two in late at night (say 2am) and therefore cannot blast the sound; or before making dinner, and in that case I'm rushing, so I will skip the themes (usually) in order to assure I see the entire episode before I have to stop the disc.

On the other hand, if I have all the time in the world, I will let the songs play out, whether I like them or not. As ashenfairy said, it's a good chance to do something else before a new episode starts. This is especially useful if you need a potty break! (LOL)

(3) The company I keep. If I'm viewing the anime with someone else, I almost always skip the OPs/EDs after the first viewing. If I pick up a vibe that the other person enjoyed the song, I will ask if I should skip first. But most of the time, others don't get into the songs as much as I do, so even if it's a theme I personally love to death, I skip them out of courtesy.

(4) Animation. If it has a cool sequence, or just a favorite character, I'll watch it for the additional footage. I do get an excited fangirl tingle when you see Schwarz in the WK OP, or the Frost Brothers in GX!

There are some I dislike, though, and refuse to watch for any reason. For instance, Berserk is one of my favorites, but both the OP and ED are horrible! I skip them so fast the DVD doesn't know what hit it!

And since others listed some of their favorites, here are a few of mine:

"Velvet Underworld"
Weiß kreuz 1st OP
VO: Weiß

"No Reason"
Weiß kreuz Verbrechen and Strafe OP
VO: Weiß

"Dreams"
Gundam X 1st OP
VO: ROmantic Mode

"Resolution"
Gundam X 2nd OP
VO: ROmantic Mode

"Gin-iro HORIZON"
Gundam X 3rd ED
VO: Nakase Satomi

"Message No. 9"
Gasaraki OP
VO: Tane Tomoko

"Dear My Best Friend"
Ushio and Tora 1st ED
VO: Sasaki Nozomu

"ex Dream"
X -Ekkusu- OP
VO: Myuuji

"Just Communication"
Gundam Wing 1st OP
VO: Two-Mix

"Rhythm Emotion"
Gundam Wing 2nd OP
VO: Two-Mix

"White Reflection"
Gundam Wing Endless Waltz ED
VO: Two-Mix

"Eden"
Yami no Matsuei OP
VO: TO DESTINATION

... I'm sure I've heard others, but those are what pop into my head right now. I should dig out my CD collection sometime; I bet I'll find a ton more since, like I said, I am a music freak!

I've always loved Slayers's OP animation/songs because they were catchy and had english words in there. Nothing like Megumi Hayashibara singing!

Actually I got into Inu Yasha because I LOVED the ED animation and kept up with anime to learn the lyrics of the song. I think Inu Yasha has some of the best ED songs I've heard in anime. My favorite anime songs are "Every Heart" and "Deep Forest"

I also LOVE Escaflowne's OP animation/song that's also what kept me watching the tv anime more. Plus I could sing along in english and make it sound really good.

I wanted to watch SMJ ever since I heard about and when I first saw the OP I sighed in relief because I KNEW it was going to be a great anime.

Tenchi ED songs were good too all though the ones shown on tv in America were re-dubbed... they're not too bad.

I agree that CCS's "Catch You, Catch Me," is well... catchy. I just love the animation of Sakura standing on the petal in the water with the song playing. It's one of those songs that you definately have to sing along to otherwise you possibly have no soul. :P

When I first saw Kodocha's OP I didn't know WHAT to think but the song grew on me and now not only do I have to sing along but I also have to do the hand gestures in the dance while I'm sitting in bed watching it.

I don't like Trigun's OP or ED for some reason and I don't like Sayuki Reload or Gunlock OP/ED which is sad because I like the first season ones. I agree I don't like Full Moon or Bleach's OP songs/animations either.

My cat Seeley is a Sailor Moon fan, too!

I didn't anticipate on having a black female cat and a white male cat or I would have named them Luna and Artemis... oh well.

I watch the op/cl at least once and most of the time skip it after that. There are a few op/cl that I watch every time though

The op/cl of Paradise Kiss

The op of Fruits Basket

The first op of CCS

The OP of Escaflowne
It eluded us then, but ...tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms further...and one fine morning- So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.

Megaman for the win. XD I'm totally depressed that I've seen absolutely no cels from that show at all. I'd be all over them if I could just find any. Where did you hide them, RubySpears!? *shakes fist*
