Halloween animes

Post by duotrouble »

So another thread got me thinking, what animes do you think would be great to watch for Halloween?

I always have people over for a horror fest or Hitchcock night for Halloween. This year I was thinking maybe I'd try some anime. I've already thought of Death Note and Kakurenbo: Hide and Seek. Anyone think of any others? :^^:

My pick is the Cowboy Bebop movie I watch it every year. Not scary but definately a Halloween feel.
It eluded us then, but ...tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms further...and one fine morning- So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.

There's the Blood Movie.

Certain episodes of Higurashi might be decent. School Days 12 might be too gross to watch on a casual basis. :P :D :sweatdrop X| :O

I usually don't watch supernatural themed anime for very long.

Le Portrait de Petite Cossette would be a great choice.

Lunar Legend Tsukihime has a horror type story mixed with a romance.

Tsukuhime Moon Phase has an occult story with comedy.

If your guests do not mind ones on the ecchi side then Ghost Talkers Daydream would be a good one.

Well, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni is very subtle. (<-- Spoilers abound, btw) :^^:

Chobits Episode 11: Chi Confirms - Great episode based around a story about an apartment comples haunted by the vengeful ghost of a woman betrayed by her lover and murdered by his wife.

xxxHolic Episode 10: Lamp Light - CLAMP takes us on a "Hundred Ghost Night," a great Japanese tradition with the belief that if a group actually did tell this number, one of the members would die. As the stories are told in groups of four (shi - pronounced like the Japanese word for "death"), this is a possibility anyhow. Essential Halloween watching, even if it, like the previous one, is set during Japanese Obon, a festival of death that falls during the very hottest part of summer.

xxxHolic Episode 12: Summer Shadow - Based on a well-known Japanese urban legend about a hotel (iin this case a summer cottage) that has a hidden room. Don't miss the allusion to Ringu in the final scene.

CCS Episode 6: Sakura and Her Mother's Memory - One of the best episodes, with a surprise ending!

Ditto Petite Cossette. The first episode of Mushishi also would be worth considering, though the ghost there turns out to be rather benign.

D-Gray Man!! I wouldn't say scary, but very dark...and Allen dresses up as a pumpkin, oh and there's a vampire  Of course I could just be obsessed with the series and trying to share in that obsession...it's possible.
As for others...I'm not sure, the only horrorish thing I watch is Hellsing...does that count?

WOW! 8O I am so checking out Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. It gave me chills just watching that. Of course, I have no idea what the spoilers are but I'm sure once I start watching it'll make sense. X|

Great suggestions, guys! :) It doesn't have to be horror. I was looking for creepy or scary. I'm not really into gore.

How about Zombie-Loan? I wouldn't exactly call it horror per se, but... it's got zombies in it.

And, of course, there's always Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. :P

Thank you for clearing that up.

Cool! 8) Zombie-Loan and Jigoku Shoujo have made my list. :D

Thanks, everyone! :) And now other people have cool suggestions too if they want to have a Halloween gathering.

I have plenty of time to research, dl and decide. :^^: Keep the suggestions flowing! 8)

Haven't seen it, but When They Cry sounds scary at least.

I'd recommend Ayakashi: Classic Japanese Horror

It's a collection of 3 Japanese horror stories: 4, 4, and 3 episodes long. The 3rd one, Bake Neko, was the best in my opinion!
