Anime with varied Openings?

Post by Keropi »

Does anyone know of any anime with Openings that change depending on how far you've progressed in the series?

Higurashi Kai's Opening is changing as the series goes along. GunxSword's Openings lighted up more characters from the shadows as they were introduced in the anime. (You could consider the later Openings to be spoilers)

I thought I heard someone mention that GunxSword's director had varied anime Openings once or twice before working on GunxSword.

Here is the GunxSword's director's previous projects:

...and here is the director of GunxSword's Opening and 3-D work:

Anyone know of any other anime that varied their Openings? I can't recall any.

Tenshi ni Narumon changed the opening when the story deepened during Episode 13, highlighted new characters and plot twists.

Rockman.EXE changed it's opening for the first season after new characters were introduced, around episode 32 or so (out of 51).

Kyou Kara Maou kept the same song, but varied the opening after about half the series.

But I really believe GunxSword is the one anime that changed the most depending on the characters. XD When my boyfriend and I watch this series, we get all excited when a new character is unveiled. XD

Naruto, Bleach, Blood +, and Fullmetal Alchemist have multiple openings.

(I'm too lazy too 'em up on youtube and post links though... :sweatdrop)

That's interesting. There's similarities and yet they also differ. 8O

Yeah...I really liked the GunxSword opening. There was always a new character to look forward to being unveiled.

For those who haven't seen the GunxSword Opening, here is a YouTube link to one of the earlier versions of the opening. Notice how only the first three characters (and turtle) can be seen. All the other characters are blurred and can't be seen because the show hadn't featured their characters in the series yet (inanimate objects and symbols and blurred too):

I wish more anime would do this sort of thing, but I guess when you're up against a budget and a deadline who wants to spend extra money on multiple varied openings?

I'm looking forward to seeing the next version of Higurashi Kai's Opening. I suppose after we get past those story spoilers we'll be able to see them unblurred. :)

Every Aria episode has a different opening because the openings are integrated into the episode. The opening song and credits are overlaid on top of the city/character scenes. I haven't seen Arietta yet (waiting for CrystalNova subtitles) but this is true for Animation and Natural.

I wish Aria would be licensed, Cloud, but I'm pretty sure if I ever want it on DVD, I'll have to save up for the R2s. :(

One Piece
City Hunter
Eyeshield 21
Death Note

There is a ton more but to lazy to think of them . General rule I'd say is if the series is longer then avarage (being 24-26 eps) chances are there is more then one OP or ED. There are exceptions but this is a good general rule to go by. Also if your interested about a certain series, just check ANN as they list the OPs and EDs of each given series.

Actually I'm kind of looking for the anime openings with only minor changes between them. Ideally these openings would be blurred. After the blurred part of the Opening becomes visible you realize what was hidden behind the blurred out or darkened out area.

But really any opening that reuses something from a previous opening is okay to mention (hopefully the differences between the 2+ openings are minor though).

Hmm...I never knew that about Negima?! And I watched that series too. Guess I just never rewatched the opening.

I didn't know about ARIA's opening either. I wonder if any of these opening variations besides GunxSword's appear on YouTube? I wouldn't recommend searching for Higurashi Kai's alternate Openings however because those alterations are story spoilers.

I just noticed this today.
The last cut of the OP, only 4 of the 009s that appeared in the show so far, while the rest of silhouettes of the rest. Since I havent seen the whole series yet, so Im not sure if that cut will change when the new 009s are introducted.

WOW! 8O And here I thought almost all animes changed their OPs and EDs. At least, practically everyone I watch does.

For me, the easier question to answer would be what animes don't. My short answer to that is short animes of 24 or less episodes. :^^:

Good luck finding what you're looking for! :)
