To all Escaflowne fans, your keen cel eyes are needed!

Post by MeganD. »

Hello Esca fans! I'll try to make this quick. I have an opportunity to reunite a cel of mine with a sketch I found quite randomly in a Rubberslug gallery. It's owned by a collector who enjoys the sketch and is unwilling to let it go without finding another from the sequence to take its place. This is where I would love to borrow your expertise!

The cel/douga is of Van from the ending credits of Escaflowne. Here is a link to my cel:

http://dbzsneeze.rubberslug.com/gallery ... emID=55725

Now I feel like I've recently seen a douga for sale from this sequence, but for the life of me cannot find it. Have any of you all seen a douga from this sequence for sale recently/currently? I'm thinking any of him with his eyes open will do. (Van closes his eyes towards the end of the sequence)

And also, if you have a douga from this sequence for sale or are willing to hear offers, please let me know as it may mean I'll be able to reunite my cel with his very long lost sketch mate.

Thanks in advance for any help!

-Megan

Are you sure you have A-12? Because I just looked at my Van ED and it's labeled A-12.

Van ED

I'll scan the sequence number to display if you'll do the same. I could be reading it wrong. I just want to make sure. mat4226 offered me the matching sketch a while ago but I can't buy this year due to financial restraints.

Duotrouble,

Well that's just darn weird. Heh. Let's definitely scan and compare. I'd definitely like another set of eyes to take a look. Perhaps I truly am beginning to lose it!

I'll scan and post the number as soon as I get home from work tonight. :)

Yeah, and my coloring is totally different. Makes me worried. :?

I'll get my scanned tomorrow and posted. I'm at work now too and won't be getting to the computer afterwards.

OH! Mine also had cut 153 on it, I believe. Wonder if it's from an episode?

Your cut number 153 kind of throws me off. But it does look like the ED right at the overlap of from regular color to monochrome.
But if both of you have the same sequence number on the cel then that's weird, but it can happen if the studio does make both for that "overlap"

I think they made two sets. One where they made it look monochrome for the entire scene and only used half for the actual ending and the other half is made in full color for the color change in the Ending Scenes where Van starts looking up.

A little Cel Remedy also has that sequence that you have DT

Van scans (and a horrible screencapture...)

I'm still seeing A-12, but my eyes have played worse tricks on me. It's a one layer cel, so I'm fairly sure the squiggle is an A. Let me know if your eyes see differently Matt and DuoT.

(Also, the douga question still stands. If you've seen one from the sequence, I'd sure appreciate knowin'!) Thanks again, everyone. :)

Yeah, well, that's because I'm a moron. X| I was at work remembering the cel next to it in the celbook. :cucu

Anyway, I scanned them and put the images in my gallery. It was the fastest thing I could do since I was really pressed for time today. I've been so tired since my accident. :hurt:

With the handwriting being so similar for both sequence numbers, I'm thinking Kujaku may be right. It appears as if the same person penned in the sequence number. Perhaps they did produce two A-12 cels, one in the flesh tone and one with the greenish coloring. One douga, two cels. Interesting stuff.

Cel Remedy's Van is from later in the sequence (Van is looking more toward the sky than my or DuoT's cel) and although in the end credits he is very much flesh tone by that point, Cel Remedy's has the greenish coloring. Consequently, I'm betting Cel Remedy's Van has a "sister" cel too, but with the alternate tones.

Also, Anime-Link has one from the sequence for sale. http://anime-link.com/escatv/esca51.jpg

This one is flesh toned and is definitely from earlier in the sequence because his eyes are closed. (I was wrong in my first post when I said he closes his eyes towards the end of the sequence, his eyes actually begin closed, then he opens them as he looks up.) Again, I'm betting there is another one out there with the same sequence number that has the greenish coloring.

Boy, ya learn something new every day! I'm with RoboFlonne though and think that dash may hold some significance. I looked at both my and DT's cel pretty closely, the shadowing and pose totally match each other. Other than the coloring and that dash in the sequence, I can't see a single thing that is different.

Wow, I didn't even think of the possibility of there being an A12 and A'12.

But if you look at my Van sketch:

Cool huh?

Omygosh, Matt. Good eye! The sketch has both DT's A'12 and my A12! :)
