Fruits Basket: Subbed or Dubbed?

I personally like to watch Fruits Basket dubbed. That's how I watched it the first time, and when I did hear the original Japanese, I hated how much Yuki sounds like a girl.

I know that women frequently play young boys in anime (Edward Elrich was a woman in Japan and a man in America), but a 15 yr old boy shouldn't sound like a little girl. I don't mind women playing boys as long they can actually pull it off.

My brothers both had deep voices by the time they were 14. Any character that truely sounds like a woman using a "little girl voice", but is supposed to be a boy is too much of a stretch for me.

What do you think? Do you like to hear the Original Japanese when you watch FB, or the English version?

I've only seen a few dubbed episodes on cable and really thought it was dubbed very well. I very RARELY ever watched dubbed anime but I think a few companies are finally getting a hold of some pretty darn good voice actors.

I do have FB on dvd but never watched it yet. One of these days in the near future I hope to sit down to watch it.

I prefer it dubbed. I love the FUNimation voice actors. Laura Bailey, Justin Cook, <3 Chuck Huber! <3, Jerry Jewell, and the great John Bergmeier are all terrific in dubbing this show.

I actually like to watch FB dubbed too!!! The voice actors are pretty Good!!! Your right miz ducky Yuki sounds too much like a girl in the sub version. This thread makes me want to go watch FB right now!!!

For whatever i watch, japanese with english subtitles is my choice. Japanese are way better dubbers.

Watched FB long ago so i don't remember how Yuki's voice sounds, but you can bet that if he sounds like a girl is because it was supposed to sound that way.

I've watched both subbed and dubbed versions, and I still prefer subbed. I don't mind Yuki's voice since it kinda suits his gentle and scarred personality. Plus it really suits him when he gets dressed up as a girl.

I liked the dubbed better, probably because I saw the series dubbed first. I'll admit that the Funimation voice actors are some of my favorites and that had a bit of an influence on it too .

I perfer subs over dubs... However, when I first got into anime for the first year I only watched dubbed, I was the type of "no subs for me, dubs all the way" type of person. During this time is when I actually watched Fruit Basket, I didn't enjoy the series... So I think I may enjoy it now watching it in subs (will find out eventually if thats the case) but in the past a series I have not liked dubbed turned out to be one I liked more after seeing the subs. I voted for subs.

As far as having females voicing young men , I remember Ranma was originally voiced by Sarah Strange on the Dub till Richard Cox took over around season 5. Also I wonder how many Naruto fans realize "his" english voice is actually done by a woman in her late 40s.

The first time I saw Fruits Basket it was the original Japanese with dreadful english translations, but I understood it well enough to fall in love with it. As soon as it was licensed I ran out and bought the Funi releases - I got through part of one episode dubbed and went right back to the original Japanese. I guess I went with what I first fell in love with.

Besides, if the strongest men in the universe (Goku & Gohan) can be voiced by a woman, Yuki certainly can be too.

I've only ever seen Furuba dubbed, because it was one of the first anime that I saw. I've been meaning to see it subbed, though.

I prefer Sarah, actually. Richard made Ranma sound like a jerk who means to be a jerk--he really doesn't. He's just insensitive, and it ends up making him a real jerk. I think Sarah was better able to protray that subtlety.

I'm one of those people I'll watch an anime in any language once. (I just watched an episode of DBZ in Portguese the other night.) There are good and bad voice actors all over the world.

I'd only seen Fruits Basket in English so when I was at AX I went to a viewing room to watch Fruits Basket in Japanese with English subtitles. Of course, I was sitting in the back of the room and couldn't see the subs but I know the story well enough I didn't need them. The second Yuki started talking it was like fingernails on a chalkboard. I can't stand the VA for him. Some woman do a great job voicing for male characters such as Naruto but for my tastes, this isn't one of them.

I tortured myself to stay through both episodes playing that night but it never got better for me. The funny note for me is I prefer DBZ in Spanish. Hey! I've watched it in 4 languages now and that's the one I enjoyed most.
