But would you get a mosquito bite for $4000 big ones? Image

$4000 would buy alot of cels.... I'd do it. Lol... But Seattle's too far away! Image

Plus you're helping scientific researchers find the best vaccine!

I'm not into doing that sort of thing, but then again, some are willing to do it.

I'd almost do it for free just to say that I had contracted malaria.

*raises hand* Sadly I missed the chance locally. John Hopkins was doing one for 4k you put your hand in this tube and get bite for 45 minutes. One session for 4k. I was going, called them up and everything, but I ended up having a test on the day. I was pissed. Teacher said he wouldn't let me make-itup. bah.

How about $10,000 or $20,000?

Plus don't forget you're helping alot of people in swamp filled countries to get the best vaccine!! Image

How about $30,000?

I didn't vote. I need the maybe catagory because I'm with ducky. Tempting as 4K may be, it would have to be at least 5 figures. 6 figures and I wouldn't be able to catch a plane fast enough.

There are some things I would never do for research though. I was asked to participate in a research study on non-allergenic peanuts. These are being created specifically for people like me who are deathly allergic to peanuts. If we were to accidentally eat one, it wouldn't neccesarily make us go into anaphylatic shock.

I was to be force feed a peanut every day and they would record the results taking extreme measures to make sure I didn't die. Not my idea of a fun 2 months getting shot with an Epi-pen everyday. I passed. You could offers me millions and I'd still pass. Try your experiments on those less allergic first. So just getting a disease that's curable doesn't seem like that big of a deal to me.

I already am a free feeding ground for mosquitos, so being paid would be kinda nice, but I'm kinda sensitive to bug bites. Last one I had welted up along the vein for 3 inches. :l

You are absolutely correct - it's not the short-term being cured that worries me nearly as much as the long-term lingering effects which will end up costing substantially more than $4000 in seeking repeated doctor/pharmaceutical remedies.

I have a question about the hotel room that the volunteers stay in -

Do I have speedy internet access?

If so, sign me up. :D

Mosquitos hate my blood. They'd have to be pretty desperate to bite me.

My old boss came home from Africa certain that he had caught malaria while he was there. Something about the multiple days of having a temp of 104 deg F, that tipped him off. X|

They must have given him something helpful or else he probably wouldn't have been able to walk himself off the plane when he got home.

Thank God they didn't send me there!!

(Yay, go AFRICOM!)

My husband got Malaria on a trip to Nigeria. I think he would tell you that $4000 is definitely NOT enough.

(And transmet is right... is does have a habit of coming back again later. Many times. Not fun.)
