New favorite show in 2009?

Post by cscratch »

Did anyone watch anything awesome, anime-wise, that was released in 2009?

Just curious - I haven't exactly been keeping up & am wanting to watch something new. If you have some suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated :)

I'd say I personally enjoyed these anime the most OVERALL from 2009:

Shikabane Hime Kuro -much better than the first season, but didn't like the last two episodes

Zoku Natsume Yuujinchou
Cross Game
Pandora Hearts - didn't like the made up anime ending though
Canaan
Taishou Yakyuu Musume - fun series
Spice and Wolf II
Letter Bee

Book of Bantorra - has a poor first episode which caused a lot of people to drop it, but the story is well written (if a bit too mysteriously complicated)

Asura Cryin second season - the first season was so-so however

Darker than Black Ryuusei no Gemini - but another ending I wasn't too keen on

Cencoroll - unconventional

Kara no Kyoukai 7th movie - I didn't see this, but a lot of people are saying how good it is

Kemono no Souja Erin - lot of people like this children's book story too

Umineko - popular with a number of people (I didn't get into it though)

Eve no Jikan - I liked this (although it ran from July 2008 to Sept 2009)

EDIT:

Bakemonogatari is popular too if you don't mind lots of dialog and SHAFT style animation techniques.

Kemono no Souja Erin

That's the best from 2009 for me.

Don't be deceived by the "Book for chindren" description.

I think I better post my secondary choices from 2009 here also.

I don't know how many responses you'll end up getting. There's drama going on outside and usually whenever I ask about anime picks from a particular time period I never get many responses because there's no easy list of them available.

I liked these anime from 2009 on some level, but not in the same overall way as the previously mentioned anime:

RideBack
Chrome Shelled Regios

Shinkyouku Soukou Polyphonica Crimson S - I disliked the first season, but this was a prequel season

Sengoku Basara
Ristorante Paradiso
Lupin III vs Detective Conan
Aoi Hana
Clannad Kyou Chapter
Aoi Bungaku

I'm sure there must be something in there for you to watch. :)

For the most part I think I'm just agreeing with what's already been said, but some of the series I've enjoyed this past year:

My favorites (no real order :^^: )

Kimi ni Todoke
The Sacred Blacksmith
Armed Librarians
-The Book of Bantora -I keep hearing really terrible reviews on this one, and while it's not completely a cohesive story, it's got a lot of great action and characters that get me interested in even the most pointless of episodes :P
Fairy Tail
Darker than Black Season 2
Katekyo Hitman Reborn (it was running in 2009 so it counts right? :^^: )
Natsume Yuujin-chou

Series I enjoyed (and am still enjoying in some cases):
Pandora Hearts
Letter Bee
Kobato
When the Seagulls Cry
Sengoku Basara
Valkryia Chronicles
Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom
Guin Saga
Eden of the East

I've been reading The Book of Bantorra episodes being explained by kemal_1915 in the AnimeSuki thread and that's helped me out a lot in understanding what's happening:

Thanks for the link Keropi :D
That actually answered one question that was bugging me recently about the series.
Whether Hamy was the bad guy or not

How far have you watched Bantorra up to crackpot?

You can understand a lot of Hamyut's actions this way:
Much of what she does is influenced by her desire to fight a strong opponent who would have a killing intent against her. In that respect, Hamyuts is pretty amoral. :D

I'm at episode 16,
For all her quirks I still thought for the most part she was doing things in conjuction with the good guys, but lately in the series everything's been pointing to darker motives. I'm curious where there heading with her character and why. (makes me wish for translation for the light novels)

Yeah...it appears that both sides are working together for at least a few issues. I guess they'll explain why they're working together and why later in the series.
