Paradoxically, one of my all-time favorite OST albums is "To the Another World," Yoko Kanno's music for Earth Maiden Arjuna, one of the all-time truly dreadful anime series. But the music is phenomenally good, and the album tracks like a classical suite with some terrific choral set-pieces, particularly "Awakening" and "Aqua," which provide a nice set of bookends near the start and finish of the CD.
One of a very few OST albums that you can listen to with total pleasure without watching, knowing, or even thinking about the anime series for which it was composed. Which is just as well.

My favourite OST is the Cyber City English dub version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlZakDfs ... re=related
It really summed up the series and for it's era, had an edge over all other anime in the prolific Cyber Punk genre.
In contrast to this I also love the Totoro soundtracks, I have 2 CDs and they're both impressive because they instantly remind me of the emotions associated with particular scenes.

The Air OST sounds really relaxing.
Some effects in "Summer Lights" reminds me "Chrono Trigger" videogame OST during the Kingdom of Zeal part.
First time hearing and really like the Cyber City theme, what about japanese original, is there a source in order to balance them ?
Seems that native english have affinities for Cyberpunk and mature post apocalyptic anime in general. From this universe, here is another good shot from Kenji Kawai in "Ghost in the shell" (live) :

As cliche as this choice is, I would say Cowboy Bebop has one of the best OSTs in Anime.

Can be anything related to anime music and coming on the soundtrack CD, even OP or ED like the Arc En Ciel Driver's High :darksuzaku wrote:As for OST, i understand you are referring to the BGMs right?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBvwhnmUxDA but except this title the rest of the GTO score is not what I'll call as memorable.
Cowboy Bebop is a nice example of jazzy titles propeled in a futuristic era. Feel free to add Youtube links to allow people to listen to your favorites. Goal is to underline the musical aspect of anime which often contributes to its popularity

I find that pretty much anything Yoko Kanno did is good to listen to from beginning to end. I espeically like the two Macross Plus and the Please Save My Earth CDs. Other than that, I find that I like to listen to soundtracks that evoke scenes or characters, especially when certain characters have their own themes that are played frequently. Ryu Knight is a good example - I love listening to the OSTs.
