Anime and Ren'ai Games

Post by Keropi »

I moved my reply here:
theultimatebrucelee wrote:yeah, there you go, the first popular one :) boy, I'm getting bishoujo and ren'ai confused..so ren'ai is romance basicly right?
Ren'ai is "romantic love."
so far over the years my top pure romance in no order:
ef-a tale of melody/memories
school days, favor:D
kanon 2006
air
clannad/currently watching after story
rumbling heart
kimikiss
lovely complex
paradise kiss
true tears
bokura ga ita
and special mention for romeo x juliet lol
I usually prefer more like the game type because then you get several stories in the same anime although only a couple of them might end up being decent.

I'd say at the moment my favorite romance anime are:

Kanon (2006), Suika (Wet Summer Days) second episode
ONE ~ True Stories (three episode Second OVA)
Maison Ikkoku TV series, Hana Yori Dango TV series
Please Save My Earth OVA, Refrain Blue, Koihime, Kanon (2002)
AIR TV series, Kakyuusei TV series, Doukyuusei (End of Summer)
Campus, True Tears, Nanatsuiro Drops, School Days, Kyoshiro to Towa
Kimi ga Nozomu Eien TV series, Sentimental Journey, Iriya no Sora
I Can Hear the Sea, Mizuiro second OVA, To Heart TV series
Tokimeki Memorial 1 OVA, Tenkousei, Elf ban Kakyuusei
Wind ~ a Breath of Heart (with all 17 episodes intact)

All the others I've seen so far don't hit me in quite the same way the above anime have. Unless of course you consider the following to be romantic anime:

Rurouni Kenshin 1st OVA, DNAngel and Sadamitsu

The romance were my favorite parts of those anime.

EDIT:

This is NOT an endorsement in any way from me for people to go out and see School Days. I take no responsibilty for mental scars from anyone who decides to view it on their own.

Theultimatebrucelee, I ran across an old post from Feb 24, 2004 so I thought I would post it here since it fits in with the general subject matter:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A few historical footnotes concentrating mainly on the non-adult stuff:

The first story game translation to anime form came with the release of the adult ren'ai game anime Doukyuusei in July 1994-May 1995. From the "raising sim" type games came Debut OVAs in 1994, Graduation OVAs in 1995 and the Marriage OVAs in 1996.

The Elf version Kakyuusei OVA was released in Nov 28, 1997-June 26, 1998 (to LD and VHS I assume). Anime producers were slowly transitioning away from translating adult games into adult anime. The Elf version Kakyuusei OVA only contained a 1 minute 52 second section of H in the fourth episode.

Sakura Wars 1st OVA was released ?Dec 18, 1997-July 25, 1998.

1. The first ren'ai (romantic love) game to appear on TV I believe was Sentimental Journey in April 9-July 1, 1998. Sentimental Journey was based off a non-adult ren'ai game (Sentimental Graffiti). So Sentimental Journey was also the first non-adult ren'ai game anime and the first anime based off a completely non-adult game that I know of.

Virgin Fleet OVAs were released April 25-Oct 25, 1998.

2. The edited first nine episodes of the adult Doukyuusei 2 OVAs aired on TV in July 2-August 27, 1998. I think it was the second ren'ai game anime to air on TV.

3. The Elf version Kakyuusei OVA (if I'm reading it correctly)aired on Sept 3-24, 1998. I think it was the third ren'ai game to air on TV. On Sept 10, 1999 the second DVD (episodes 3-4) of the Elf Kakyuusei OVA gets released with a couple extra scenes of dialog added and without the small adult scenes in the fourth episode. So they turned it into a general audience anime. :D

4. Himiko-den aired Jan 7-March 31, 1999. If we count it as a ren'ai game anime (the game and anime don't concentrate much on the romance aspects though) then it was the fourth ren'ai game anime to air on TV.

5. To Heart aired on TV in April 1-June 27, 1999. It would be the fourth or fifth ren'ai game anime to air on TV.

Tokimeki Memorial OVA was released June 17, 1999-?end 1999.

6. Kakyuusei TV series aired July 5-Sept 26, 1999. It would be the fifth or sixth ren'ai game anime to air on TV.

Pia Carrot 2 DX OVAs came out 1999-2000.

Sakura Wars 2nd OVA ?Dec 18, 1999-Dec 21, 2000.

First Kiss Story OVA was released Feb 14, 2000.
