Anime suggestions?

Post by Shampoo »

I'm in a bit of a anime-viewing plateau :emb-- just finished up
a couple of series and currently looking for 1 light-hearted
funny anime
, and 1 action/horror/violent/psychological anime .
To give ya an idea, I just wrapped up Kamichu and Claymore.
I *cant* download bit torrents or any sort of download so
the suggestions have to be licensed stuff only. :P :P :P
Unfortunately my shit apt complex has a block so I can't
even download something as simple as news footage videos
let alone 30 min-1 hr shows.
:flushie:

Any thoughts on licensed stuff thats out there?

Action/Horror/Violent/Psychological:
I'd recommend Monster. It's a really great series with all of the above elements to some degree. The only downside is that's it's a little long at 72 or so episodes.

Light-hearted/funny

Strike Witches
Spice & Wolf

Action/horror/violent/phychological

Rental Magica
Kurau Phantom Memory
Darker than Black
Kurokami (only 1st 2 discs are out)

Lighthearted: Skip Beat, or Kimi no Todoke

Action/Horror/Violent/Psychological: Armed Librarians: The Book of Bantorra, Umineko no Naku Koro Ni, and I'll second Darker than Black.

Or if you want a lighthearted action: Sengoku Basara

edit: Whoops and if I bother to read I'd see licensed X|

I think most of what I listed isn't :^^: But when it is that's what I'll suggest :jump

Lighthearted licensed: The Sacred Blacksmith (cute series with some action and a little romance)

Action/Horror/Violent/Psychological: Jyu oh Sei or my personal favorite D. Gray-man

for action/violent I'd go for Basilisk, Soul Eater or ga-rei zero(not sure if its licensed, can't find any info regarding), I give them same amount of credit as I would to Claymore. and one that I think is the best action ever is fate/stay night, I'm a big fan of it.

forgot, can you stream shows?

If you can stream shows, I would suggest you go to the Funimation website and watch Rainbow for a Action/Horror/Violent/Psychological series. It isn't really horror, but it fits the rest and it's a new series so it's still being updated every week with subs.

http://www4.funimation.com/video/?page=shows&j=A

Some series on the site are trailers only, but others have the entire series with complete episodes including Sengoku Basara, Darker than Black, Soul Eater (has 51 ep, not sure how many there are) and Jyu oh Sei (one of my favorites), which were listed by others in this thread.

Couple more on the site, but not listed here are Phantom; Requiem of a Phantom and Tokyo Majin which would fit the action/psycho;violent category (TM would probably fit horror).

I've been enjoying Rainbow. I'm actually surprised I keep watching it. Seems like it gets you frustrated or crying, however you keep cheering on the little guy and when good things finally do happen it's so satisfying. :P but yeah....total head trip. Very emotional series. 8O

Thanks for taking the time to reply everyone!!
Your awesome!
I really appreciate you guys taking the time to
give me some suggestions. Considering the genres
I asked for are pretty specific and well.. very
bi-polar of each other LOL! :emb

Unfortunately, most mentioned I've already watched
or have dropped due to interest.
Rainbow sounds up my alley but I can't access
streaming video very well. :bawl
I was able to get thru Dennou Coil on streaming but it
was very testing of my patience, with it locking up
10 mins at a time it would take me 1 hr to watch a 22 min
episode LOL! :hitting:
Sooo... thats why I asked for anything
thats licensed so I can just physically buy the dvds. :D :D :D
Hopefully when I move out of this apt it will not be an
issue anymore.

Based on what folks said I'm going to try these:

Jyu-Oh-Sei
Phantom Memory
Tokyo Majin
Higurashi
(since its prequel to the one you mentioned Wendy ^_^)

Argh! I've been dying to watch Kimi ni Todoke for such a while!
:bawl :bawl
When is someone going to license this????
*feverishly scratches head*
:bwall :bwall
And these companies wonder why kids just download
and by pass buying licensed. Do we really need another
panty-shot harem anime brought over?? pfft!!
:ok:
(end rant)
:rollin:

Still looking for a light-hearted!
Keep em coming LOL!
:rollin :hitting: :rollin

Actually are these any good?? Has anyone seen them?
8O 8O 8O
- honey and clover
- lovely complex

Okay. I'm going to go out on a huge limb here. I'm not going to suggest anime. I'm going to suggest a US based concept. Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Granite, I'm coming off of of a huge Airbender whirlwind, but I think this show is just absolutely amazing. It is on Nickelodean - and you can netflix it all. I totally LOVE this show. Just stepping out of the box here!

I second Lovely Complex, loved it. There is a live action movie as well. Honey and Clover was kinda boring to me.

I agree with you, despite it's a very long series, I was not bored while watching it... Just don't miss episodes if you want to understand everything :3 .

For my part, here are my suggestions:

Light-hearted/funny:
Ouran Host Club
Rozen Maiden
Hare nochi Guu (be prepared for the madness!)

In between:

Last Exile (my favorite series!)
Seirei no Moribito
Haibane Renmei
Soul Eater
Tekkon Kinkreet (my favorite movie)

Action/horror/violent/phychological:
Blood the Last Vampire (the average-length film, not "Blood +" which is not excellent in my opinion)
20th Century Boys (the movie, I watched it yesterday, really liked it)
Red Garden (very unusual but worthwhile)

If I think of anything else, I'll let you know  .
