Recent anime?

I've been pretty out of touch with the latest and greatest (or coolest or awesomest...) shows within the last couple of years, so can somebody list some of the more popular shows that are recent? Ones that's been going on for years doesn't count, like Naruto or Bleach. The reason I'm asking is I'm trying to come up with some new anime character ideas to make plushies out of, so ideas are welcome! (preferably shows with bishies ^_~ ) Thanks for helping!

Black Butler and Hetalia have been pretty popular
both here in US and Japan as well.
(both whom have bishies!)

merchandising whore..er... series LOL!

Basically if SouthPark had a fling with PPGirls, this
would be its bastard offspring.

How about Oreimo? They aired the episodes on ANN, and the manga and anime are popular in Japan.

These are not necessarily the most popular shows though. Most of the more popular shows lately have been bishoujo...more so than usual.

Wow that's quite the list being generated!!

Yeah, irmgaard brought up a good point on how some shows already have tons of officially licensed plushies out there, so I don't want to really compete with that. Several shows I've heard of, but most of them I haven't, will need to do some serious research into this!

Kuragehime, a.k.a. Princess Jellyfish, which just ended, was very cute and fun.

It was a noitaminA show, so it was streamed on Funimationâ€™s site in the US.
