I get a report that in Russia, in the "Sailor moon" duet Neptune and Saturn, they were cuts and the voice of Saturn was dubbed by a male actor. Apparently, some of broadcasted classic TV anime vehiculate gay community stereotypes such as androgenics and unclear relations between characters. Some other anime such as "Saint Seiya" with androgenic long haired body aspect or "Versailles no Bara" with a woman named and dressed as a man in a man's position show potential community codes. Brother and sister relation may also from time to time be surprising in some anime. There are specific coded popular mangas Yaoi and Yuri that are easy to understand just by watching the manga cover, but for classic anime I don't know if there are any existing studies about this cultural difference of Japan VS Western audience and censory of anime.
So here is my question, as any spectator I have a vision and understanding based on my personnal background while I watch anime and according to the country broadcasted version. I'd like to know if there are some situations misunderstanding or with multiple way of understanding that can be consider to require a gay background to catch those missing details. With those missing or broadcast censored information I may then be able to rewatch some specific episodes to better get the point of a situation and understand the whole complexity of episode as desired by their original authors.

I think Beta got hit by a Hack Attack a day after I posted it so I think it got lost.
Also a fiend of mine Steve Bissette just published a book that deals with a lot of this in the comic book industry as well as the current modern entertainment industry titled Teen Angels & New Mutants http://srbissette.com/?page_id=11537

Re: Censory in anime
I already had a look on the first link and worked a bit with Canadians about censory there (and comparison in Quebec with both french and english dubbings on a similar TV series, really instructive).
I'll have a look on the second link, thanks a lot for this precious information.
